Lapua 308 palma brass.

Was going to order box of Lapua 308 palma brass for FTR for my 24in barrel rifle but a little unsure if there would be any issues with stout powder charges e.g 47g varget and 48g n550 with the small primer, will be loading 185g berger Juggernaults, anyone able to confirm 100% ignition with quoted loads thanks.

47 grains of Varget with a 185 Juggernaut? I'd say thats a REALLY STOUT load!

Its my 800-900y load for current rifle with short 24in barrel, Very accurate but downside is reduced loadings due to inlarged primer pockets after 3-4 reloads hence question with palma brass and use until i part with funds for a 32in 308 Dolphin FTr rig in winter.

I run 46.0 grains H4350 with 230 Hybrids in Palma brass. I've used Fed 205M, Russian SRM, CCI 450 and Rem 7½ with no issues. My lots hold about .5 grain more water than standard Palua .308 brass.

Steve, What twist and barrel length are you using for the 230g hybrids, How do you compare accuracy with the 230 hybrids against the lighter 210 and 185 bergers at 800-1000y thanks.

In F-TR, I'm using a 10" twist, 30" barrel at ~2460 fps. That is marginal for the bullet and should probably be a 9.5" twist. The accuracy is excellent. I've won club matches with them in F-TR and done well with them in F-Open at the Nationals. In both disciplines, they have associated recoil-induced handling issues that have led some to conclude that 230's do not shoot accurately. That is not correct, the problem is gun handling. Both my .300 WSM amd .308 chambers have .280" freebores to allow seating 230's with up to a .030" jump.

I have been shooting the Palma brass for two years now and have never had any ignition issues. In fact I lost count of how many reloads my cases have been through. I am currently shooting the 185 Juggernaults at around 2800 fps.

I have read issues at colder temps but at what temps should a person worry? Also i am just starting out and havent bought any brass yet and am wonderring if i should start with using the palma or non palma as i will only be using 155.5 bullets out of a 28 inch barrel?

Thanks

The new sierra palma 155 has better bc than the older ones. They shot realy well in my factory savage barrel.

To the original poster....with that much powder and heavy load, I would try my Winchester brass for the higher case volume??

Thanks for info Steve, Have you also tried the lighter 210 and 185g bergers in same rifle or is .280 freebore soley for shooting the 230 hybrids.

The 215 Hybrids and 210 LRBT can both be used. The 185 would have a long jump but might work.
