Lapping Leade

Rimfire chambering question: Do any of you guys lightly lap the leade in your rimfire chambers after chambering? I’m getting ready to have a chamber cut was just wondering if there is any merit to try and soften tooling marks. I don’t think a 22lr can burnish them away like a centerfire can. Just thinking out loud here.

I take an old bore brush, wrap a oily patch embedded with JB compound on it and run a few strokes with it. only takes 10-15 according to my hawkeye

I have no experience but I read a lot....

Calfee describes using a hob to do what you want to do.

Lapping the leade is more important in a RF bbl because the lead is too soft to smooth any tooling marks that the reamer leaves. U just shave lead off of the bullets.

In both RF and CF bbls, I use Diamond lapping paste on a patch wrapped around a well worn brush. About 15-20 strokes will remove any of the tooling marks and leave the leade nicely polished. U don't need any bbl break-in on a centerfire as the lapping did that for you. U can get the paste from either McMaster-Carr or Grainger.

Don't know that I would say that it is exactly the same as using a Hob but you get a similar effect.
