Lanolin iso heat

Simple, yeah, crude, but effective and works fine.

jug.jpg

10:1 99% isopropyl alcohol/pure lanolin in a solvent safe spray bottle, dump 100 cases in my "jug" spritz once or twice swirl, shake a little, spritz once more and again, dump brass onto an old hand towel, stand the cases up and let dry. Wipe the inside of the jug with another old hand towel before solution dries and I'm happy.

You guys re making a way too big of a deal using this. Get aplastic tub like a butter dish. The big ones. Drop your brass in the tub and give it a couple sprays. Shack and spin the tub. Drop them onto a flat surface for about 2 min and use them.

You don't need to waste time lining them all up and then spray them. Waste of time. 2 min is plenty of time for the alcohol to flash off. Sometimes I don't even wait. Depending on what I am sizing. I have never had a stuck case this way. I do around 10,000 223 each year and 6-7000 9mm and 2,000 357mag. And yes I spray my pistol brass. You would not believe how much easier they size. I tumble all the brass in walnut after sizing to clean.
Just get the can of Hornady one shot and spray it and let flash for about 3-5 minutes. Works great, I’ve never stuck a single case and a large can lasts me over 5000 rounds. Simple. This iso heat and lanolin mess is such a waste of time and effort.

only cases I have EVER stuck was with the Hornady 1 shot. Thats why I started to make my own. 80,000 rds later and still no stuck cases. Whenever I see someone talk about stuck cases it is ALWAYS Hornady lube

Yep that’s because nobody ever reads the directions. I’ve reloaded for years and never used anything other than one shot or imperial die wax. The ONLY possible way to stick a case with one shot is to either:
A. Not get any on the case when you spray it, or more likely
B. Spray the cases and then immediately feed a wet one into the press. STUCK.
Wait 3-5 minutes and let the solvent flash off and you will never stick another case. Trust me.

I guess they don't realize it is 75% isopropyl alcohol. Regular HEET is 100% methanol - $2.89/12oz.- wouldn't that work
The problem with methanol is that it is more readily absorbed through the skin, and it's very toxic to humans compared to Isopropanol. I used it for years as a cleaning agent for screen printing inks I used, but never cared for the sickly sweet smell -- reminds me of rotting pumpkins.

Their MSDS says it's Isopropyl Alcohol and Ethylbenzene. Methanol is too toxic and probably more expensive than isopropyl. I use 16 parts IPA to 1 part liquid lanolin. No rust no must, fails safe, drains to the bilge.

I use 10:1 and get same results, including the ability to size wet if I choose. Also dump sized brass in tumbler with fine corn cob, in less than 10mins brass is ready for next step.
I've been using white rice in my tumbler. Works great, and leaves a dry film inside the neck. No more using the dry lubricant to expand.

Same for me. The only.case I ever stuck in my life out of hundreds of thousands of cases was with One-shot. Threw it right in the trash.

I have never dealt with gummy dies or mess or anything with lanolin. Easiest and best case lube out there.

I can't stand the stink of lanolin, how it discolors the brass and gums everything up.
I switched to a 50:50 mix of refined coconut oil and 99% isopropanol.
I'll rub a small amount of the mix into felt and then roll my cases over the felt before resizing. Ten years later, I'm half-way through my 16 oz mix jar and have reloaded tens of thousands of rifle rounds that don't discolor, dies and cases that don't gum up, and don't stink.
Except for 357 and 44 Mag, I use carbide dies and never lube pistol cases.
Edit to add, since adopting this method, I cannot recall a single dented shoulder.
Hah!
I can't stand the stink of rancid coconut oil!
Never thought of using it as a case lube.
One-shot has never failed me, but I'm certainly not a high volume reloader.

Oh, I've never encountered rancid coconut oil or milk. Doesn't surprise me. Leave an EVOO bottle open to the air, and it'll be rank after a few weeks.

I'm going to give your recipe a try, what steps, if any, do you take to remove the lube from the sized cases?

Thank you.

I started using 6:1 ratio but now use 12:1 mix. I mostly use Iso Heet, but have also used anhydrous isopropyl when I have it. I probably take more care apply it than most.

It has NEVER changed the color of my brass, I can size with it still wet and it works fine, never even come close to sticking a case, just toss it in a tumbler with plain fine corn cob to remove, and my shoulder bump is right on. For those having issues, maybe it about how you are using it? I've sized more than 30,000 cases with it from 17 Remington to 7mm Mag. On the belted mags, since the belt holds the case side off the sheet, I have to make sure I roll and spray all sides. On all the rest I just spray the top side and roll them around. I do let lube accumulate on the sheet.

Here is how I apply to my cases.

I do the same except your cookie sheet looks a lot better than mine. :)

20 min wait time not long enough? Tried it several times and they stuck each time. I shook the heck out of the can as the cases did not feel slick at all. They were like there was no lanolin in the can. Heck, Lee's case lube cut with alcohol works very well too. Never stuck a case with that either. Or PAM cooking spray when I had to.
