Lack of 22-250 brass

Barrel burnout in the 22-250 is a wide path. It will depend on which bullet/powder/velocity/rapidity of shots intersection. The 6.5x284 is not a barrel burner at all, if you shoot 3 rounds each outing. If you let the barrel return to ambient temperature before the next shot, you have thousands of opportunities for hits. If you hammer your gear, it will fail quickly.

So, the answer would only be accurate if we knew what parameters you intended to utilize. Prairie dog destroyers could weigh in much easier than I, if you plan to shoot lots of rounds and slay lots of them dough-gies. I like the LR game and shooting 88gr pills once in a while. The barrels last several thousand rounds with slow fire.

That being said, you could grab an inexpensive barrel from Brad at UrbanRifleman, and be shooting so many other cartridges with good life, plentiful brass, and fun in your glass. 2k would be a safe bet if youre choosing the right powder/bullet/rate of fire parameter.

22xc or 22 Creedmoor.

I've been trying for a couple of years to get David Tubb to make the 22 XC brass. I was ahead of the curve on that one. I still think you should do it. Please everybody call Superior Shooting Solutions and tell them that you would like to shoot his 22 XC and that he should stock the brass. :)

With the lack of good 22-250 brass. Lapua quit producing it. Looking at threads people use to make 6xc brass from lapua 22-250 brass.

Can i take 6xc and make 22-250 brass ? What are the options these days ?
I bought some Norma (100 ct) for 100 plus, from Raven Rock? I have some Lapua, and old NIB rem and some older norma cases. that should hold me for several loadings.

Anyone that's been around a while knows that many chamberings go through periodic cycles of brass availability. A couple years ago, there was very little 223 brass to be found. Now it's everywhere.

Now add in a little paranoia and suddenly the 22-250 is declared dead. The outlet where I saw the Winchester 22-250 brass also had literally thousands of rounds of factory 22-250 ammo on the shelves. Maybe the boxes and bags contained little tin foil hats as a bonus? ;) I should have thought to look.

If the 22-250 could speak for itself, it would probably steal Samuel Clemens famous phrase:
"The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated."

Good shootin' :) -Al

Brad already got his share of money from be in the last year

They quietly stopped making it.

Brother they have quietly stopped making all of the Walmart cartridges. Try to find 243 or 270 or 3030 etc etc

They have essentially stopped making just darn near everything while no one was looking.
Blue Collar Reloading had (24) 100ct boxes of Lapua 243 brass right now.

After loading some 30BR stuff last evening for an upcoming tournament, I grabbed a 22-250 Body Die and screwed it in the press.

Lubed a 22 Creedmoor case with Imperial and pulled the handle. Like magic, a 22-250 case emerged. Repeated with a piece of 250 Savage brass. Same 'magic'. How about a piece of Lapua 6 Creedmoor? Hmmmm....more 'taika' ( that's 'magic' in Finnish) ;). A piece of fired Remington 308BR brass was the final 'magic act' of the evening. A long necked 22-250 was the result...true American orange and green magic right outta' Ilion, New York.

Hand loaders tend to be a resourceful lot.

Personally, I would no longer index Walmart as a reliable source of centerfire ammo these days anyway. Walmarts I have visited no longer inventory rifle let alone ammo. Plenty of air rifle pellets though...
If your complaint is lack of 243,270 and 30-30 loaded ammo, I suggest searching ammo outlets like SGAmmo. Pleanty of these calibers there.

My WalMart's shelves are full of rifle ammo and 22's. Haven't looked closely to see just what was there, but I did spot 30-30's

It doesn't matter the location It's the absence of the product. I think you guys are missing the point I was trying to make. Whether there be some old stock or some new import that they are currently selling in very small amounts, the old standbys of Remington and Winchester and Federal ammunition on the shelves at your local retail store, In the old calibers, simply doesn't exist.

The OP's concerns about the availability of a certain mfg of 22-250 and the availability of acceptable replacements seems to have been solved here. Its his right and prerogative to decide how he chooses to proceed but supplying false information about this particular brass being mothballed or obsolete is doing him a disservice. I believe it has already been disproven here.

TO THE OP,
Given the sources provided, there are formidable alternatives with 22-250 brass. I wish you well in your reloading ventures.
