Labradar vs Magnospeed v3

I know a half dozen really good people at the club have the Labradar and absolutely love it. I happened to get the only lemon on Brownell's shelf and they refunded my money after I had fought various issues with it for a month or so before it totally died on me. I also know of at least two guys that use Magnetospeeds and they seem to be happy with them. I went back to optical and have no desire to switch anytime soon. All type units have their negatives and positives

Get what makes you happy I say, a $100 optical gets me good enough results for load testing. But opticals are a pain to use from prone, which was the reason why I tried the Labradar. If you go with Labradar you get need to get the optional base or a heavy tripod and you need some sort of padded case, either a Pelican style or the Labradar soft case. Lightweight department store tripods are marginal, the unit is pretty heavy. Also pick up a 10K power pack and connecting cord off Amazon, when active the unit sucks power but a $20 no name battery pack can get you through several hours at the range.

If your just after bullet speeds and easy set up that doesn't affect barrel harmonics or read your neighbors speeds this is what I've used for the last two years. It has never let me down, set it up on tripod 10 ft in front of rifle, set scope on lowest power and verify chronograph diffuser rods on each side are equal and fire away. Doesn't sound sexy like MAGNOspeed or LAB radar but it works and works unlike the previous two I've seen at the local shooting range.... I've spent my whole morning clocking bullets and they spend it fiddling with their chrono's. HB

I had the m3 and sold it, bought the labrader and couldnt get the app to work all the time, sold it. Went back to my pro chrony with blue tooth that also gives me the speed by talking to me as well as showing on my phone. never misses a shot and I dont have to get out of position to turn it back on.

that was how my problems with the Labradar started, when the USB connector stopped connecting that was the last straw for me. Forget customer service, all I got from repeated emails was it is your phones problem not ours. Thankfully I had bought from Brownells and I got my money returned.

Like you I also use the ProChrono with the blue tooth. This is my second, my first one got unreliable after 8 years of being bounced around in the back of a Jeep. It may not be the sexiest chrono on the block but mine is 100% reliable and no rough rides in the Wrangler for the new one so I hope it stays that way

The LR can also be used for pistols. Not so with MS.

Either will work, but I think the Lab Radar is preferable if you're not shooting on a packed firing line. I use the V3, and while it's very easy to deploy, and gives accurate readings, you can't really do load dev with it attached due to it changing barrel harmonics (and POI, but that's obviously less important).

I didn't know the Pro Chrono had a Blue Tooth wireless connection now and twice the speed internal crystal clock for more accuracy in FPS readings. I may have to upgrade now to this new one for only $135.00 ......HB

Mine did not come with bluetooth. I had to purchase a bluetooth add on, but it work everytime and again I dont have to get out of position and it stay's connected to your phone. This new one that you showed us is nice and affordable.

Like my LR,the only problems I have had has been the operator (whom can't put batt's in a flashlight)
