LabRadar set for muzzle braked rifles?

Good timing for this post. I,m about to start testing a few braked rifles with my Labradar for the first time. I have been using the Labradar with unbraked rifles for a year or so and the port for connecting the remote battery has stopped working, so I use rechargeable AA batteries and they work fine. I just keep a dozen or so freshly charged AA batteries in the Labradar bag.
Quit working in only a year? Do you know what happen? Are you sending it back to get fixed? So I will ask How has your performance with non braked rifles been ?

In terms of trigger sensitivity, there can definitely be differences between units. The internal sound sensor on mine is not very sensitive. If the the unit is not placed at least 2-3" in front of the muzzle and/or less than about 5-6" offset to the side, it will not trigger. Even when positioned this way, it still fails to read an occasional shot.

It's kind of a PITA, but I'm not really eager to send it back, lose the use of it for some unspecified amount of time, then get it back with essentially nothing changed, which is what often seems to happen with issues such as this.

I had the same issue as Ned Everyone else's works fine but not mine. I have many failure to reads and errant velocities. Out of 25 rounds last weekend, I had one read 6,800+ fps, one read 4,500+ and more than 5 that didn't read at all. I was glad I had my Magnetospeed attached at the same time. I have setup and used two for friends with no issue. Mine just seems like a bum unit.

I set my braked rifles about half way between the end of the stock and the end of the barrel.
About 5-6 inches away from the side of the barrel.
Never missed a reading if I remember to hit the switch.....

This is how mine works, I also bought the external battery from Labradar and it works great. The most i have used it is about 5hrs and plenty of life left in the Battery.

Fortunately, mine doesn't appear to give errant velocity values, it's just very finicky about where it is positioned. If it was giving me errant velocities, it would already have been sent back.

Did you try batteries before changing cables?
Yes. I keep a fresh set of AA's in my pelican case plus 3 different rechargeable batteries. The USB connection was 'loose', and when I changed to a different cable all was well. Pure luck of the draw maybe, or something in the Labradar. Don't know. But the new cable works fine and runs all three batteries as needed. So far, a full 6 hours of run time takes about half of one battery. Two plug straight into 110v wall outlet and the other into a 5v USB charger.

I had the same issue. Changed cables and all was fine.
I tried a few different cables but not much luck. If I held some in just the right way and jiggled a bit and held my tongue just right, the cables would work, but it would switch off again at the next shot. It has worked flawlessly with the regular rechargeable batteries fitted. It is pretty picky on needing to be aimed closely at the target but when it is aimed well, it works well.

I hear they are real picky about alignment, Any tips on best ways to align and keep aligned?

Mine sure has not been picky about alignment and has worked great. I have sometimes used a trick someone posted and that is to hold a multi square against the back and use that to look towards target to align.
