Labradar question.

Thinking about one of these. Looks like you can buy a mounting plate to mount it to. My question is this.....lets say you have the plate and you set it up on the bench next to your gun...which is a fire breather with a brake. How does the Labradar put up with the buffiting from the sideways muzzle blast. On my bench I usually need to clear everything off of the bench under two pounds or else it ends up NEXT to my bench.

Thanks,
Tod

If you put the LR unit off to the side 18 inches it will be fine with the muzzle blast (you set the amount of lateral offset from the muzzle in the set-up menu and place the unit accordingly). The base sold by Labradar is rather flimsy, IMO, and has four rubber 'stick-on' pads that adhere to the underside of the plate and are easily displaced. I strongly suggest in not purchasing their base but getting one of these:

Excellent quality, utility and will fold up and store attached to the unit even in the factory optioned soft case.

Oh...I don't have the gimballed mount and have not found a need for it shooting from a bench or prone, not that it is not useful for some; it is not necessarily needed.

Labradar addresses this issue. I don't remember if it's in the FAQ section of their web site, or in the owners manual (which you can download). In addition to the information you get from this forum, it might be a good idea to see what the manufacturer says about brakes before you purchase.

Me? Don't take this personally, but I think the Federal government should legalize machine guns, flame throwers, and Sidewinder missiles and ban muzzle brakes.

On a bench, the plate mount doesn't work well, so I use a strong tripod to position it. I also changed out the head on the plate, to give better support, when shooting prone.

Most of my rifles are braked. It is important to note the angle on the baffles for proper setup. As I use only the 90* baffles, I usually set up 4-5 " behind and 16-18" to the side. Use a straw to aim at target. Use a battery pack, for it eats the AA batteries quickly. I have no affiliation, just a very satisfied 20 month user.

Should you have any questions, Richard @ LabRadar is easy to contact for troubleshooting.

I bought the plate when I bought my Labradar. BUT.... my barrel is off the end of the bench too far for the labradar to pick up the shots. I then placed the labradar on a tripod in front of the bench, and it works great. So I say, save your money, and get a tripod or a different mount.

It really is a well made piece...and i am very critical of machine work and design. Matt hit a home run with this product.
