LabRadar Question

I really like how they have never, not once, sent any sort of update to those of us who signed up for more info, as being interested in buying. Seems like people have to pry information out of them... together with the ongoing delays, not the best way to start off in any industry regardless of how innovative your product may be.

Vaporware.

Smells like they're under capitalized and ran out of money before they could produce anything more than a prototype. They can't seem to even manage a simple mailing list to send information, or updates.

Hope that they prove me wrong, as it's cool technology; I'd buy one. I won't believe any of their bs until they actually ship one...

Nice product in theory but poor business practice makes me wonder about the company when their whole operation fails due to one person being sick. And they are always postponing sale dates.

I emailed the contact person in December. He replied that they were going to production and due to ship some time in January. I agree that their public communication has been lousy but he did get back to me. I'm not saying that guarantees that they will be shipping in the next 2 weeks. Just saying that he got back to me.

Appears they signed up for the SHOT Show going on this week:

Question is whether anyone here has any first-hand input on whether they have a booth there? If there's any news being offered that's not available elsewhere?

There are pictures taken in their booth at the Shot show in the Bulletin. It says they are shooting for a Spring release. I'll believe that when I see it, given that they have missed so many release dates already.

On Tuesday i broke away from the ESS booth and spoke to Richard about the unit. He had two set up to demonstrate the menus, but no way to safely demonstrate the operation of the unit. I was not at the range for media day so I don't know if he performed any live demos there.

Richard stated to me that all licensing requirements have been completed and that all components have been manufactured and are fully vetted. Like many have posted before, "units are scheduled to ship soon". When is soon, I do not know.

The price tag is $550 or there about. IMO the unit appears versatile and convenient. Am I going to leave SHOT and post my Magneto Speed for sale no. Like many I will wait for additional info.

That's the best I can offer at this point.

Stay safe,

They actually look a little bigger than I thought they would be.

Yeah... unless the body that belongs to that hand is really tiny! ::)

I'd been thinking maybe 7-8-ish" square from the pics a year ago; those devices look more like a small pizza box-size is what's in the offing. Price point's suffered from "quantitative easing" too it seems, maybe 25% above what they were hoping to introduce them at.

Do they have a wireless capability so a user doesn't have to have one set up in front of the firing position to see the screen on the back?

We know more now than we did a couple of days ago. Thanks folks for your inputs.

I think the price point is about right if they can actually replace a Ohler 35P which is around the same price. Size as I mentioned is larger than what I thought but honestly ;D small compared to my Ohler when you take into consideration that I have to carry the tripod, 4’ rail/screen/rail etc – those take up quite a bit of permanent real-estate in my car.

I think you want to set it up to the right (if you are a righty) and between you and the muzzle. That way the beam from your unit pointing towards the target is as parallel to the flight path of your bullet as possible. It is smartphone/tablet/iPad compatible so probably Bluetooth capable.

The simplicity of transport and setup to and at the range is appealing to me as well.
And like you state, a comparable price to the Oehler 35.

Since it is radar, a parallel setup is not the way to look at. From a setup off to the side the radar would see the bullets from the side easier, do to the larger picture on the bullets (surface area). Just like a cops radar guns, the larger the object the more accurate and further they can reach out. But can see its easy to get confused, when the normal chronographs being used are all based on parallel setup and over sensors.

Understand you point about a larger surface area but I was thinking more from the point of discriminating the bullet from those fired by other shooters close by. I think the setup has a place called “projectile offset” for you to put a number down in terms of how far off to the side your gun is.

I was at the Shot show today and talked to them. They are looking at the next 2-3 months to start taking orders.

The unit has settings that can be changed for crowded ranges. By changing the setting you can narrow the path down range that it will look for a bullet. The narrower you set it will mean you have to be more precise in how you aim the unit.

They say it will read 22 caliber bullets to about 60 yards down range and 30 caliber maybe about 100 yards.

Nice people, good looking unit, and I will be first in line with my check book.

So, 6mm bullets less than 100 yards?

For the price-point I'd be happy with that. All the other available options read to maybe what, 15' unless you move the device out farther?

I am not clear on why knowing my 6mm bullets are traveling at xxxx fps at 86 yards is of any more use to me than knowing they are traveling at yyyy fps at 4" from the muzzle (as obtained with my Magnetospeed V3).
