LabRadar Question

I'll be watching for the first reports from an actual customer who has purchased one, received it, and is using it.

Until then, it's BS and vaporware.

Buy list?

The site says to check back for ordering. I'm waiting for it to be available. I'll be first in line :)

Best of luck. I've been "first in line" since July (maybe June); and I was a late arrival. Still haven't received acknowledgement from them .....
I've lost confidence in the way they do business so, regardless of where I might be on the "list", I'm gonna watch how the wind blows when it comes out; it it comes out. ::)

Maybe they're waiting for after Shot Show 2015?

Think about doing business with a company that has been as shifty, unreliable and evasive as these folks. I can just imagine what you will go through when it breaks and needs repair.

Hey, it will be just like doing business with Pact for their chronographs. Got a problem? Send it in along with a check for return shipping. Then wait until their tech gets around to repairing it. Sometimes you have to call them several months later to remind them they still have your chronograph.

Wonder what battery life will be like with the "radar" units?

JAY Now I didn't think that was a Stupid Question, about placing the unit down range. That would be one thing I would be looking for at 1000 yards. The bullet is still going by the unite and it still goes BANG!

Question for you Radar experts.

Pulsed radar is nothing more than micro-wave energy. So the farther you want it to take readings, the more energy it has to produce to go the distance. Long range radar is therefore more powerful (emits stronger micro-waves) to cover the distance.

Is doppler radar the same? I don't know but am asking the question and here is why.

The Labradar unit may be limited to 100 yds because the strength of the transmitter is limited/dictated by safety regulations. Too strong of a signal can have significant negative impact on people who are in front of the device and absorb the micro-wave energy. In essence, a powerful radar signal is an uncontrolled micro-wave oven that will cook whatever is in its transmitting path. I will grant you that we are talking about strong signals here and probably nowhere near what this Labradar produces. Still the concept is the same.

Early micro-wave ovens were marketed as Radar Ranges. They cook with micro-wave energy just like radar. 10-15 yrs ago there was a big issue with the policemen who used the hand held radar sets and their exposure to the micro-wave energy.

So, will the limitation of the radar devices be dictated by regulatory agencies?

Just asking.

That could be a big selling point for this unit. If you happen to get hungry out at the range you could always just put a ham in front of the unit and cook it :-)

IF the shooter/reloader "needs to know" the velocity at 300, 400 or 500 yards, why not set the LabRadar at a distance where it would read the velocity e.g. at 200Y for the 300Y "test" (and likewise for the other distances) ?

Yes, there's the issue of cycling the controls at those distances, but… if ya' "need" to know, what better tool is there, beyond something used by the military… at 100X the cost ?

As to the "button" reset/control issue at distance, time for the developers to include a remote control, a' la garage door opener. ::)

Why not save all the money a Labradar costs and buy an inexpensive Shooting Chrony. Set it up at 200 or 300 yards right at the target with the bullseye centered in the sweet spot. Shoot up to 10 shots and the speeds will be stored in memory. If you, or anyone else, hits it, there is a lot less pain in the wallet.

Put the regular chronograph of your choice up close to the firing line as usual. Afraid there will be speed differences. Just shoot a few rounds with the units end to end and record the error as a percentage.

Because the chrony downrange is right at the target and if you are properly sighted in at that range there is the possibility that the chrony is safer downrange than it is in front of the firearm.

Better chance of an 'ad hoc WiFi setup working for this purpose. Maybe even an R/C model controller.

My son owns a garage door company and installs/services dozens of garage door openers a week. The range of their remotes is quite limited.

Will this unit be an issue when you are the firing line with multiple people shooting around?

Wouldn't this accidentally post velocities of a shooter nearby?

Especially at some ranges where the shooting positions are spaced every 4 feet.

News flash... according to their site, they will be available Fall 2014!!!

Oh, right. That's passed, and we're half way through winter 2015.

Hopefully we'll get an update as to their plans now that the 2015 SHOT Show's opened today.

Anybody in Vegas got something to add??

New video up on "LabRadar- Setting the Preferences Menu". Answers a lot of the outstanding questions...
