LabRadar Question

Software Companies long ago perfected the method of marketing "Vaporware" Get a lot of hype going for a product then never deliver citing all kinds of 'reasons'. In the end those items usually ended up being full o of bugs and the cost of production would far exceed any revenue return.

I can't imagine myself buying one of these. I already have three that do the same thing, even give me the same readings. Kind of hard to tap a market that is dominated by Shooting Chrony on the low end, Oehler and PVM on the upper end, and a bunch of similar units in the middle that do pretty much all one needs.

I put a Pact in front of the firing line and my old Shooting Chrony downrange at 100-200 yards. Shoot 10 shots, go down and retrieve the 'chrony' and compare readings with each other for BC calculations.

I can do these things NOW, no waiting for a unit that may never be seen on the market.

Dang it....its the holiday season....we all want "to believe"! Don't you go wrecking our dreams......we want a lab radar for Xmas.....lol!

First all what's all the hype other tan ease of use? From my understanding they won't make a reading past 100. Yards. They take a reading at muzzle and then they take another of impact on target at 100 yards and calculate the fps. Beyond that the frequency is not strong enough. And also say you shoot a 22 rim fire it won't pick up the impact at 100 but maybe 25-50 it is possible. It reads sound so if it can't hear it don't read.

James,

One nice benefit is that one could use the velocity at known range to calculate real BC.

You can do the same with multiple traditional chronographs, but you run the risk of interjecting error from the error difference between them.

It also takes multiple readings, not just at the muzzle and target.

I guess what I was trying to say is, beyond 100 yards it's useless. The magneto speed is a nice quick and easy setup.

I've got a Magnetospeed. Best birthday present my lovely wife has ever bought me. Pretty easy to use. Small, portable, etc. I will rarely leave for the range without it.

OTOH, I might point out that it is practically limited to muzzle velocity.

I haven't tested the value of BCs calculated with 0-100 yard velocities, but in many cases, the LabRadar would give me better results than I have now than I have now.

Well, while you guys were debating ;D, I found a new video of the machine the company posted on December 11, 2014 which was 2 weeks ago...

Missing the "M" at the end for some reason - fixed..

How useful is the magnetospeed at 100 yards? :o

If I didnt have to strap the magnetospeed to the rifle barrel, or could use it with my semi-auto pistols, I would have one.

I've never used a chrono beyond 10ft, so being able to read at 100 yards doesnt mean much to me. I want something that I can rely on, and know that I'm getting good readings without messing with a light kit, or worrying about cloudy/sunny skies, leveling it, etc, etc. This product seems to fit that bill pretty well.

Labradar pretty strongly denied that they had failed to receive approval last time I talked to them. I sent another email asking for an update.

I use my magneto speed to test my loads while shooting 300 and 500 yards. At 300 I can see bullet holes so that's no problem at 500 I paint my bullets different colors so I know which group is from what powder charge and can relate the group size/powder charge and velocity all together. This gives me all the info I need to know for my records.
Now attaching the magneto speed to the barrel in the beginning I was firmly against such actions as I had in my mind it's going to effect accuracy. What I've only seen is it only effects impact accuracy appears to still be the same. And as for my 300 WM and the 1.3" barrel it don't effect POI one bit on or off.

The lab radar is a nice gimmick if all you want to do is test at 100 yards. For some it may be a toy to show off at the range to there buddies you know that cool factor thing.

James -

Please stop...... you are way off.....
The LabRadar can be used at ANY distance of shooting, just like your magneto or any other chrono.
It takes readings out to around 100yds of the bullets path/timing.
It doesn't know the target distance..... and doesn't matter.

Donavan,

The lab radar will not read velocity out past 100 yards, I've spoken to the company on this and they said 100 yards is max.

James......... Wow....... It doesn't need to......

If your shooting at 300yds, your bullet will get read by the radar in the first 100yds of your bullets path to the 300yd target.

Do you have to set your Magneto up at 300yds to shoot at 300yards?
NO ... it gets its reading at the muzzle, of the bullets path to the target at 300yds.
Same for the LabRadar or any other chrono......

Stop it now.....your killing me Smalls !.!.!

According to them it won't.

What I'm saying is I want to load develop and get chrono readings all at same time from 300-500 yards. This unit according to them won't give readings if you shoot beyond 100 yards. If I'm missing something I'm sorry but based on what they told me it won't make readings at the distances I test at.

James, many of us are laughing out behinds off with your answers. You are way lost!

Your magnetospeed is good enough for you and has a range of 0 yards, but the LabRadar which as a range of 100 yards isn't?

The LabRadar will work wether you are shooting 100 or 1,000 yards.
