LabRadar problems

Have a late version LabRadar and Magnetospeed V3. Can’t get the LabRadar to function reliably at our range. Was trying out the other day again and could only get couple of shots to register. Another shooter there said he had same problems at the range. He said it was because of the metal baffles installed at various ranges from the bench. Can’t do anything about that as our 70+ year range in the country is now encroached by the city with a large high school less than 1000 yds away. Baffles and berms don’t allow a shooter to see daylight. Tried different settings to no avail. Wanted to use LabRadar to verify loads from V3 with nothing on the barrel. Have had 2 LabRadars with same results so guess it is V3 all the way. Anyone have a similar situation?

This solved all my problems as we have the same problems at my range with baffles. A number of guys in my group got it too and everyone likes it and reports no issues.

Oh yes. Totally different. It’s basically an inertial/kinetic trigger.

Will give it a try. My 6BR eliseo f- class tube gun is very similar to what’s in the video. Low rider. But also have wood stock rifles to tune. Have NEO rest also.

If you did not do it, try the Doppler setting. It’s not recommended for the most accurate readings with small fast bullets, but should narrow down if it’s a triggering issue or radar bouncing back off the baffles. Same if there is a short berm without the clutter in between.

The radar is cone shaped, narrowest at the unit. I have had my best results in cluttered areas with the unit right next to the barrel. Keeps the bullet in the cone instead of crossing it.

Changing channel or frequency may also help if you did not try.

I have not had light effect usage at all. Shooting from bright sunlight into shadows, through the tress where it’s in and out of light, or shooting at night all work fine.

Received the JKL trigger module and took my LabRadar out today. Installed on the scope turret flat of my Sako 6PPC single shot and it worked perfectly. Problem solved.

I had similar issues with my LabRadar initially. First trip out, I was forced to use the Doppler setting to get any usable data at all. Eventually, I figured out that I could use the acoustic trigger on sensitivity setting "2", but I had to place the muzzle about 4" behind the unit, and about 2" off to the side. Mine will not reliably pick up shots with the muzzle placed ~ even with the side of the unit as shown in the product insert, or in front of it, even with the sensitivity set on "1". Nonetheless, it works just fine with the muzzle slightly behind and a couple inches to the side.

I've considered picking up the LabRadar external mic attachment, and have come across a couple shooters at the range that had one and stated it worked very well for them. However after seeing it previously in another post, I like very much F Class John's suggestion of using the kinetic trigger. In fact, I just took a break from writing this response and ordered one...problem solved!

I misunderstood the directions on placement of the unit initially thinking “offset” meant distance between the barrel and unit. Dropped shots randomly frequently using from almost touching to twelve inches to the side. Someone on here said to move six inches behind the muzzle so I did. I have not dropped a shot in hundreds tested since.......

I place my Lab-radar several inches behind the muzzle and have excellent results,,,,,,

I’m going to add this just to possibly help someone who might be struggling with their Labradar unit. I was so frustrated with my unit dropping shots (and I tried every setting, location relative to muzzle, etc.) that I finally gave up, decided the unit must be defective, and therefore called the fine folks at Labradar to get return authorization. After going thru all the settings, etc., they asked me if the bench I was shooting from are constructed from wood. The benches at my gun club are, in fact, wood, but built like absolute tanks. Labradar advised me to move the unit off the bench and onto a tri-pod. Problem completely disappeared and hasn’t dropped a shot since. Just thought I add as another point to consider.

Getting a lot of good information here. I use the microphone for rimfire and suppressor. Still will use Magnetospeed V3 for development but want LabRadar for finals.

I have had my lab for 2 plus years,,after I got the remote trigger it has worked fine. Sunday I was doing load development on my new 6 BRA. I set up lab as always and it was very sporadic as to catching my bullets. It would get 1, then miss 3, then maybe get 1 or 2 more out of 24 shots? It has worked great until now,very frustrated as I have no chrono info for my load developing...any ideas?

Mine was doing a similar thing with sporatic picking up of my shots. I called LR and was emailed a authorization to ship to the US location last week. Will have to wait and see what they say once it has been opened up.

You have gotten a lot of responses related to the trigger. Seems to me like your problem is not related to the trigger but the metal baffles. Call the guys at Labradar, they are very good at discussing settings for your specific situation.

My labradar story does not have a happy ending! I bought a used one from a fellow shooters widow. It worked pretty good for two months during my learning curve of how to use it. Then it became very difficult to get it to capture a shot. I had other shooters with labradars set it up and try. Sometimes it would get 5 shots but they would be 1000+/- from actual volocites. Sometimes it read 6700 or 7200fps. I sent it in to be checked out. Their reply was that only the case half with the display could be saved. To repair it would be $545.. I elected for them to return it to me so that I could see what they were talking about. Here are the photos they sent me. (said there was a gooey like substance over everything and my batteries must have leaked. I only used a separate battery cell for power) pdog2225

Make sure you set the velocity range to pistol. It often won't read pistol speeds if set to rifle.


Pdog; $545 is more than a new unit, isn't it? Or is that $545 Canadian ($425US)?
