Labradar Improvements

Has anyone heard about a Labradar 2.0 coming out anytime soon? It seems like there are some long standing issues with bluetooth and needing external triggers for best results.

I'd like to get one and I can wait if there's a new edition on the horizon.

Every time I ask they keep telling me very soon or next month or next week. I’ve given up at this point and will just be happily surprised when it comes. :(

I doubt Labradar would pre-announce an improved model and thereby stick dealers with old obsolete stock. Labradar 2.0 will just suddenly appear on dealer shelves, after a sale on the 1.0 versions.

Are you asking about a new physical 2.0 unit or an updated 2.0 version of the Android/iPhone software? The last update to android/iPhone software v1.1 appears to be about 2 years ago. Just wondering ....

Hardware, not software.

I'm hoping for a more durable unit, one with a better mic, and fewer bluetooth oddities.

May I ask... Is this LR 2.0 something they have said or something we are all wishing for...???
Other than just right here, I haven't heard or seen any announcements anywhere else.
I would swap out for a more reliable Bluetooth connection in a heartbeat.
The external Mic has taken care of the issue of the occasional missed shot on the built in Mic so that connection drop is the only actual hitch I still get.

If they are listening in... It would also be awesome if the CSV file could also be user annotated in real time so I can add notes instead of just the series number...

The folks at the stateside service center were very good about fixing up the one glitch I had with my unit, so maybe a call to them will answer this as well?

More durable? Have you heard of them breaking? Mine doesn't get all that heavily used, but has been fine since I got it a few years ago.

the mini USB connector on mine went bad less than a month after purchase which meant I could not use the external battery. Since the unit eats batteries so quickly that was a deal breaker for me. After receiving less than satisfactory customer service on the bluetooth issues and needing to purchase add ons for rimfire and suppressed etc I just returned mine to Brownells for a refund. It's a nice concept, but poorly planned and executed

So would your scope if you dropped it.

Micro Type B USB ports are fragile on any device. Not a LabRadar issue per se. Maybe they move to Type C but the Type B is fine if you respect it. An external trigger with the unit would be nice but the accessory market has fulfilled that role nicely already. Perhaps the best thing they could do is provide a better alignment sight with the unit. But again, that's easy to fix. I'm not sure there's enough incentive for them to worry too much about a v2.0. If they do, the current version at a discount would be a bargain.

The wind doesn't blow my rifle over. We had one fail this past Saturday in 20-30 mph gusts. It was blown over and failed to turn on afterwards. If you're going to make something like this kite shaped, it should be able to tip over from it's current spot and survive.

Regarding the mic, I'd rather have a better build in the mfr unit than have to rely on the aftermarket. It's not like this is a $200 unit, it's already quite expensive.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems reasonable to expect that it can survive being tipped over. It's not like it fell off a 4' table on to the concrete floor.

I use Arcomatt's folding base. I've knocked it over a couple of times when setting everything up and it's been fine. I would not use a tripod style base in gusty wind without weighting it down any more than I would leave an expensive camera on an unweighted tripod in such conditions. If all it did was tip over and then no longer work I'd send it in under warranty.

as I said it's a poor design from the ground up. I would change everything you listed and make the control and power supply separate from the transmitter/antenna/receiver. That way you could make the unit more stable and less top heavy, and at the same time put the controls convenient to the shooter not on the other side of the bench which is inconvenient at best. Give it a adjustable base and a better triggering system. The software sucks compared to a Pro Chrono and the blue tooth is unreliable at best. The battery should have been a LiPo rechargeable That USB port should only be needed for software upgrades, not for everyday use to connect a battery that lasts longer than 15 minutes. How hard would it have been to put a cheap aiming scope on the unit, 600 dollars base price and to use it you have to use duct tape and a straw to aim the thing so it will to pick up shots, lol.

Unless I decide to start designing and marketing my own bullets and need to calculate BC's any chrono available will do what I need one for and will do at a fraction of the price. Once you get past the techie appeal and the snob factor it really is flawed in multiple ways.

I tried three USB cables, all worked fine on other gear but the socket or some other part in the internals on the Labrador was bad a so replacing the cables did not help. I suppose I could have exchanged it either with Brownells or the distributor but by that time I was ready to back to my optical, the techie/snob allure had wore off and reality set in. Thankfully Brownells has a liberal return policy, But thanks for the link
