LaBounty Stamp Holder

Any tips for caliber stamping with the LaBounty Stamp Holder? It didn't come with any instructions and I cant find much online.

Thanks

I had one with instructions. I threw all of it in the trash. If you happen to have a set of stamps that are all perfectly aligned it might work. The size would have to be quite small because it is hard to stamp deep enough to get full letters in a straight line. I can do a pretty fair job by using a piece of tape for a guide and hitting the stamp several times while rocking it to follow the barrel radius. This is after a reasonable amount of practice. It used to be standard practice to hand stamp barrels but it is becoming a lost art.

Made my own with a couple pieces of aluminum angle, flat stock for shims and a pipe bracket...
Your stamps need to fit snugly between the angles. If they don't, you will need to make new spacers (or grind down, add washers to the existing ones depending which way you need to go). The spacers/shims that keep the angles apart also serve to orient your stamps straight up vertically.

After striking each stamp, you need to replace it with a character spacer. I found the spacers needed to be narrower than the stamps themselves to get the characters closer together. So, you strike the stamp- replace with spacer- place next character, add spacer, and so on...

Don't spare the kinetics... you're placing a flat stamp against a piece of round pipe. Strike it HARD, so you get a good indent of the stamp at the top/bottom as well as the center.

Press the first stamp firmly up against the angle spacers- then each of your letter spacers stack up against them. As you insert each stamp, make sure your "stack" of character spacers is tight and vertical by applying some side pressure to the stamp before striking it.

Make sure before you start that it's clamped tightly and parallel to the barrel so your info doesn't end up crooked.

Naturally, practice on some old take-offs or tubing/pipe before you jump to the real deal. You only get one shot...
