KUDOS To Erik Cortina

Shynloco

You can lead a horse to water, but ........
For those who may not follow the Berger Southwest Nationals, Erik Cortina took first place in the F-Open yesterday, that amidst the worst wind conditions seen at Ben Avery (Arizona) in years. So CONGRATS Erik on the success you've achieved. Now I'd love to hear how the heck you achieved that win, given those miserable wind conditions. I mean light wind reading is one thing, but blistering winds is quite another.

Re: CUDOS To Erik Cortina

Erik must have been watching those new reloading tip videos someone has been posting on You
tube...... ;D

Congratulations Erik.

Phil.

He lives in TX...only time the wind isn't blowing is when it's 100+ outside, so he gets plenty of practice :P

Congrats Erik!

And I like a dumb ass emailed him a question yesterday and he answered me promptly! Kudos to Erik for his unselfishness and willingness to help people.

Congrats Eric,,,,there is no more satisfying win or record that when you do it in bad conditions,,,it sounds like it was NOT a trigger pulling contest,,,,great shootin Eric,,,,,,Roger

Sounds like he just got lucky. Send a bunch of rounds downrange and hope the wind blows your bad shot back on target.

Nope I don't think that was it. If dumb luck were the answer I'd win, at least occasionally. Reading the wind like that impresses the socks off of me. Well done Erik and thanks for the report.

I shoot with Erik all the time.. Make no mistake about it, he IS an excellent shot! Shooting ranges have various characteristics. Erik shoots mostly at Bayou Rifles where I shoot. We have wind conditions similar to what they experienced at Ben Avery. Palo Alto in Louisiana has similar winds too. So the guys that shoot at those ranges and others that may have those sort of winds as the "prevailing conditions" will fare better, generally speaking, than some where they shoot in much "calmer" conditions most of the time. I am not taking anything away from Erik, quite to the contrary! He is utilizing those "tools" he has learned over the years from shooting at places like Bayou Rifle and Palo Alto, to do well at Ben Avery, where some other shooters do not have "the luxury", if you will, of shooting fairly often in those kinds of conditions! It is one thing to shoot well, it is quite another to LEARN to shoot well in those conditions and NOT BUCKLE under the pressure of a national event! This is proof that Erik is an accomplished shooter who also thrives under pressure! Way to go my friend!

Congratulations Erik ! and while shooting his " new savage no less", Lol.. Thank you for all that you do for us ..coues52

Where do we see the day by day results?

Like the old cliche "When going get tough...." He's though when he needs to be, but a real soft hearted guy most of the time. Congrats Erik, couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I have never met Erik, but from following his posts, I suspect that he is a class act. It is obvious that he is one hell of a GREAT SHOOTER. Congrats Erik.

Thanks guys, you are all too kind.

Ben (Shootdots), I doubt we have ever shot in these conditions at Bayou. I think that because the targets would not handle it. I shot an 8 in my first string, and that's at 600 yards! It is hard to explain how tough the conditions were, but you had to be on your toes the entire time! I did manage to shoot a good score on the last string which is the one that got me the agg win, but I had to be very patient. I had to pick my way through it at times and others I had to "shoot and move" to keep up with the conditions. It was exhausting!
