Krieger Barrels order up date

Last spring I ordered a new barrel for my PPC from Kriger. They gave be a shipping date at that time of Feb 21 2022. Getting close to time so I called to check on things and perhaps arrange payment as I had a couple of certificates I won last year to pu towards it. The gentleman I spoke found my order and said they would be about 8 weeks later than anticipated. Well, that seems to be the norm today, no big deal. Moral of the story, be aware and allow lots of lead time.

So we are talking about 10 months for a custom barrel?
Regarding Krieger, it doesn't have to be a custom barrel for that long of wait. I ordered a barrel from Krieger at the end of last June. At the time, it was supposed to be a 6 month wait. At the end of November I called them to check up and see how things were coming along. I was told they've still heavily backlogged and my order probably wouldn't be ready until April. This is for a drop in barrel that they normally have in stock.

My last Brux barrel only took 5 days. Bugholes had the
blank on the shelf. I always check them first for Brux
or Bartlein. Never had any luck finding a Kreiger of the
type I want at Bugholes......Still waiting on a Hart that is
several months overdue, but that's another issue. Reamer
for it is a month overdue also.

I have had 3 members on here contact me and offer barrels, I have responded and thanked each of them. I am covered for barrels. This barrel is actually to test dping something a bit different with a 6 PPC so the time frame is ok. Plus I picked s barrel up from a local smith getting out of the business . Thanks to the guys who reached out we are members of a good community. Lol, we do like to argue amongst ourselves.

IMO, it's difficult to plan that far ahead when components aren't readily available. I don't really want to buy something I'll have to resell in a year, to get what I really want at that time. Welcome to the new normal.

Buy, buy, buy
In light of the coming snow storm and the hysteria created by the news media, the hysteria mongers were showing people stocking up on salt, a snow shovel (I guess that guy didn’t think he’d need one this year) at a local store. One guy had a shopping cart over loaded with toilet paper. I wish I had been there to ask him his attack plan for clearing a driveway and sidewalk.

I ordered a barrel from Krieger on 07-07-21 and got an estimated delivery date of 04-06-22. I ordered another barrel from them on 09-01-21 and got an estimated delivery date of 06-01-22.

I have received notification that they are both ready to ship.

A few of us have been waiting close to 8 months for a multiple barrel order. No names as they all seem to be in the same timeframe on delivery.

Barrel delivery, for the most part, has always been an order and wait proposition. For the longest time it was around 8 weeks. No so much anymore I guess.

8-12 weeks is reasonable, that doesn't require planning and foresight. 52-60 does.

At 8-12, it also means my gunsmith probably has something on-hand. My current smith didn't have any for the month of Jan.

Any barrel you can get quick from the manufacturer today sure will not make you competitive in the benchrest game. I am happy they were up front with me and did not give me a song and dance. I was not taking a swipe at Krieger at all but just a comment on how tough it is to get items and the importance of planning ahead.I have components for 3 years so that is why I am looking ahead on barrels.

I have an order in from May of last year. Originally heard Feb as a target date. Guess it'll be a bit longer.

Interestingly, I placed 3 orders with 3 different vendors (that barrel, an Autotrickler, and a reamer) and they all came up with a February estimate. Wallet is likely not going to be happy.

Edit: True to form, 20 minutes after posting this, I got a message from Krieger that my barrel is ready. Paid for, and awaiting shipping confirmation now.
