Krieger # 17 approximate finished weight

Krieger # 17 approximate finished weight.
Krieger has posted on there website that a #17 contour barrel weighs approximately 7.0 lbs. I assume at 29 inches. Cutting 3 inches off the barrel at an estimated 3 ounces per inch would make the un-chambered barrel weigh approximately 6.4 lbs.
Sinclair has an add in there 2007-A catalog that they have Krieger 6mm HV benchrest barrels .237 bore 29 inch blank 1.25 breach dia. Tapering to a muzzle dia. of .900, wgt. approx. 7.5 lbs. @ 26 inches.
I am having a 6BR, 13.5 lb.) built on a trued Remington 700 action using a # 17 Krieger barrel. The project has been under way for over a year now and I am trying to come up with an estimated weight so I can preorder rings, bases, and other components and have them ready to go when the rifle is finished.
I have actual weights on all of the other components but this barrel weight issue keeps kicking me in the head. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That is a handy little piece of info. I ran my specs. on the program and came up with 6.79 lbs. Which means I can use concrete blocks for scope rings and still be under 13.5 lbs.
Will I be laughed out of my first BR match if I use some other bases and rings beside Davidson and Kelbly?
Thanks for the help

yesterday, Jason shot small group of the day at the 1000-yard Williamsport BR match. 5.8" . He had Burris Signature Zees on his 6BR. Yes you can spend more money on rings, but it's not clear the added expense will have any benefit--plus you may have to lap those expensive rings.

Generally speaking, unless using a Nightforce scope, you will need to add weight somewhere to get to 13.5lbs for a HV rifle.

A customer brought me the parts to build a HV rifle, old style McMillan stock, Panda action and HV contour barrel. Normally building on a Panda, there isn't any problem making weight for a HV rifle as they usually come in way under weight. I was glad I weighed everything and did the barrel weight calculations before chambering the barrel as I had to slide down the barrel contour to get the rifle to make weight with a 24" barrel. This rifle got it's weight from the McMillan stock as it was definitely made for a HV class rifle weighing in at over 4 pounds.

When I build a benchrest rifle, I'll use a take off barrel to help line up the action when bedding it. Once everything is bedded, buttplates are on, weight systems in place and I have a good solid weight for everything including scope and rings to be used, then I'll use Dan's program and cut the barrel to make weight shooting for 1 ounce under class weight. If its a glue in, I'll rough up the bedding and action, degrease the action, glue it in with JB Weld, let it set up overnight and then screw the barrel into the action and do the final assembly.
