10.5# LV - Making Weight

NorthernSights

I’m new to the 6PPC game and while I don’t have immediate plans to compete, I would like to shoot a gun this summer that makes weight. I bought a rifle of the site so this is my starting point.

Panda action, glued in an older Lee Six stock, Jewel trigger - 4.10lbs
Krieger barrel, .262 neck, unknown round count and twist, 24.563”, fluted - 5.25lbs
Vortex golden eagle scope that I had previously - 1.84lbs
Planning to use Kelbly single screw rings - .11lbs

I was hoping to get a new 13.5 twist Krieger barrel with .268 neck to start the year and use existing for fire forming. With existing components this leaves 4.45lbs for the barrel and unless I’m missing something that’s going to be tough to do. Modeling a Kriger #20 contour finished at 22”, it’s gonna weigh 5.3lbs.

What is the typical weight of a barrel? Do I need to ditch the Vortex and get a Leupold? Do i have the neck on existing barrel reamed to .268, not worry about weight to start off and have fun learning how little I know?

All advice is appreciated.

Most of my LV barrels weigh in around 5 pounds 1 ounces with BAT DS and a Leupold 45X. That Panda gives you a little and that stock takes it back away. Great rigid stocks though. As you suspect your scope is what is throwing you over for a LV Benchrest rifle.
