Knives?

Can someone recommend a decent hunting/camping knife 6-10"? I would like one with the back saw and handle with waterproof compartment. I see a lot of these type knives on eBay but worry about the quality. I would spend up to $75 if I knew it was a good one. Does anybody make one like this in D2 or similar material?
I saw a Chris Reeves' special edition that looked sweet, but dang, $400.00+ is hard to chop wood with.

I would think finding a quality knife made from D2 in that length will set you back a lot more than your $75.00 price range.

You might check out "kives of Alaska." This company makes some nice kives using D2. As JRS said, it will set you back a lot more than 75.00 for D2 in the blade. $75.00 might get you a small skinning knife with D2, but a 6-10" will run around 150.00 or more. You might consider the Buck Kalinga Pro with S30V steel. I personally prefer S30V over D2 for edge retention and corosion resistance. D2 will withstand more pounding, chopping and hacking, but that is what a hatchet is for. The Kalinga Pro will set you back about 125.00. It is very hard to find a survival fixed blade (saw back and hollow handle) with high quality steel" Cold Steel makes some nice knives that you might like, but they are pretty high priced.
Good Luck,
Jack

The poster is looking for something in the $75.00 range. You might, if you're lucky, purchase a sheath from Bob Dozier for $75.00

No idea - but for $75 I think I would go with an axe, small food storage container and a mora. They will do everything people think a rambo knife will do, only a lot better! ;)

All kidding aside; I have three of the Gransfors axes and they are superb quality. The steel is tough and holds an edge well. A good, small ax is very useful in the woods. I have spent a lot of time in the Maine and New Hampshire woods and usually carry a #415 Wildlife Hatchet when camping and hunting.

I am old-fashioned and still carry my Air Force Survival Knife. Not very modern or cool but, after 30 years, it has never failed me.

Yep, that's pretty much what I'm looking for, but in a quality steel and decent handle if available.
I already have a few axes, but thanks.
