Way back on the 25th of August I placed an order with Sinclair International for a few reloading items, including a 7 slot picatinny rail. They got it ready and sent it off to New Zealand and on the 3rd of September it arrived. NZ Customs grab it because the description of the rail included AR15/M16. After 20+ emails, 2 trips to the police station to see the arms officer, several phone calls, forms completed, emailed then posted away the package was finally released on the 18th of October.
OK I thought, it should be here soon.
Not so. More emails and finally the Arms Officer at customs rang the manager of the NZ Post Mail Centre and told them it had been released for 11 days so they can now please deliver it. They told me 3 days to Invercargill but they must have got the message as it took less than 24 hours to finally get to me, 2 months and 3 days after it was sent!
So........... If any Kiwi's are considering getting anything in from overseas that might be considered a firearm part then you need to have a permit before you order it and a copy has to be sent to the international supplier and the other copy to Customs.
What a bloody nightmare!
