Kestrel 5700

Hi ,
Given the wealth of knowledge on this site, I thought this may be the place to ask before contacting the manufacturers.

I've been running a Kestrel 5700 with SIG Kilo 3k bdx binos for a few years and with fairly good results . The issue I'm encountering is the lack of range between the two , 10 feet is about the max .

Any constructive advice would be welcome , I shall be emailing both manufacturers in due course. Obviously sending to the manufacturer would be a last resort.

Cheers fellas .

Sometimes new batteries make a world of difference. Assuming we are talking blue tooth here.

I have never had a range problem with my 5700, but it is on a mast with a wind vane mount on my shooting table, and is blue tooth connected to my iphone on the table.
Are you using the Lithium AA batteries that Kestrel says that you must use?

@boltfluter , @powderbrake Thanks for the replies , generally I use a known brand alkaline and have tried lithium , always with the system set to the correct battery type . There's no perceptible difference in range , still limited to <10feet .
I'll give the lithium batteries another go .
I'm wondering if I've missed something in set-up or is the Bluetooth range as expected ?

I don't know the range specs, but why would you be more than 10 feet away from the 5700 when you are ranging for a shot? You need to enter the range and direction of fire (unless the binocs do that for you). You have to read the windage and elevation off the 5700 (unless the binocs do that for you)

The ground I shoot is rarely level , and the Kestrel needs to be in free air not hidden with me . I like to capture the general direction of fire before getting into position . 10 feet is a good day , it can be as little as 4 and that's using quality batteries . The binos feed the targetvrange to the Kestrel and the Kestrel provides the correctios . I've now ordered some rechargeable lithium batteries , from past experience my expectations are not high . It's worth trying all the same !
A friend has just bought a pair off Kilo 10ks , it'll be interesting to see how far away his wind meter can be positioned .

Good luck with the rechargeable Lithiums.
I use Energizer AA Ultimate Lithium batteries, I bought them at Amazon.
The fact that sometimes it is a shorter range Is strange, makes me suspect one of the devices is not working properly.

Oddly enough the last time I tried Lithiums they were Energizers .
The range thing seems inconsistent , it may well be down to the batteries ? In every other aspect, both the bino's and Kestrel are functioning well .
I'll report back once I've had chance to try them .
