Kelbly Atlas or Curtis Axiom for F Open?

Any reason NOT to use a Kelbly Atlas or Curtis Axiom for an F Open build? 6 Dasher or 284 Win would be the cartridge. I know there is higher end stuff, but will the Atlas or Axiom get the job done. I would shoot less than half the round count of most competitive shooters. Thanks in advance.

Yes you can spend more but either of those actions put together by a competent rifle smith will offer outstanding results. My 0.02 is really focus on barrel maker and smith that you have put it together. The sum of the parts is squat if cobbled together by a hack. YMMV

I think not having any left or dual port options would be a big reason why a person would not want to use them.

As Ledd said. Just depends on how serious a competitor you are. I personally wouldn't go into any form of competition with economy in mind. I am either all in or all out. Just could never see the point of competing in a casual manner. Just me personally.

If you're just out to have fun and kinda have one leg in and one leg out... Either action will do you fine. I'd get the Kelbly, personally.

That way in the future you've got a nice tactical do-it-all type action you can repurpose if you decide to go all-in or want to build a secondary "fun" rifle.

I’ve heard lots of bad things about the Curtis actions. Kelbly is the safe bet. If you want to unscrew your barrels by hand, i think the Terminus actions can do that like the Curtis can.

I like the Atlas a lot. Very smooth. No experience with the Curtis, so can't really comment on them.

no experience with f-class but atleast I can tell you the atlas is a wicked action! Buy with confidence. The Curtis id pass and get a terminus if that’s the route you looking for personally. I’ve had all three

Only have ever owned Kelby . Guess you'd have to look long and hard to find anyone who had a negative about any Kelby . But I'm sure there is at least One somewhere .

Best part is it already timed right up to a Bix BR trigger so no work needed there. Plus the dual port option, heavy rear tang, and the interchangeable bolt heads with only a couple thou play and “D” pin to minimize firing pin drag and binding (not sloppy heads like savage or other aftermarket actions).

Don't have any info on it but about 4 years ago I was at Kelby's and they said they were making 300 actions for another Co. to sell. Don't know if they sell under a different name.

If it is made by the Kelbly clan, you can proceed with confidence. There is a reason I have 5 panda actions.

Kelby's "TG Ejector" that comes on the Atlas (and some other models) is the most critical reason why I myself will suggest the Kelby's. Personally will likely never buy any brand/model of action going forward that uses conventional spring loaded ejectors (several advantages to going away from them).

Is absolutly correct. The ejector designed by Tom Griffen can easily be enabled/dis-abled with the turn of a small screw. I've known Tom for a lot of years, and he is not only a great guy, but an inovator that isn't afraid to think outside the box.

Don’t know what current Atlas actions are like now but the one I owned needed a lot of work to get it running smoothly with good trigger timing and adequate pin fall.

TG ejector is nothing special.
Highly doubt most people could ever shoot the difference between a mechanical ejector and a properly tuned spring/plunger ejector. Shoot your best groups with an Atlas action and there will still be someone somewhere who can beat you with a different action having a plunger ejector.
