Kelbly Atlas action

I am planning out a hunting rifle. I have not seen one of these actions. How do they compare to other rem clones?
Thanks,
Alex

Alex,,,,you will be very happy with it,,,,they are available with the port on either side and are e-z to put in a Rem inlet stock,,,,,they have cone bolt face which works with a std, Panda thread (must use thick recoil lug//ask Kelblys, they will walk you thru it,),,,,Roger
PS,,,the workmanship is excellent,,,,

I have a Kelby Atlas single shot on my 20 vartarg varmint rifle. I prefer it to all of the other Remington clones I have shot / worked the bolt on --- including a Stiller and Borden. The Borden is also very nice and in most ways an equal to the Atlas. The custom service I have received from Kelblys has been second to none.

What are you planning to build?

I am getting an LA Atlas with a 532 bolt face, mag feed, TG ejector, .068 firing pin hole and melonited. no bolt fluting
I will take possession in a few weeks I will report back once received. I went the Kelbly route as they provided a simpler extraction set up and their understanding of what tolerances I would need in a field/precision action.
I did not buy their rail as it is (standard 20moa) weaver spacing and I wanted a 30moa picatinny.

Thanks

I have Stolle Atlas small bolt face short action being barreled in .223. I don't know about finishing the Stainless Steel action. I am concerned about a coating that would change the close tolerences between the bolt and receiver. Trevor60 had indicated that he had a melonited bolt? This sounds like a good idea but what about the receiver? Can the Stainless Steel receiver take the heat that the melonite process uses.

I am doing a light weight varmint repeater. I am not sure if I am going with the 6 dasher or 6-47L. What is the going rate on the Atlas? Does Kelblys melonite or are you sending it out?

Alex...I wouldnt put melonite or anything on the action,,,just have it sand blasted with satin finish,,,,they look great,,,Roger

kelbly sends it out but does the final post work. I had a discussion with them before and asked two things
1) if they offered the service
2) did they recommend it on their actions.

the answer was yes to both. they said they see benefits to menloniting for certain applications and indicated that a few of the guys in the shop did it on their hunting rifles.

I would speak with them directly to talk it over... they wouldn't suggest or have done as process which would have adverse affect on their actions (read reputation)

as an aside BAT highly suggest meloniting on their HRPIC actions.

I have one in single shot, 6 dasher. And just got my tracking number on another barreled action, this one in 300wm!

The other action I have to compare to is a stiller predator, which is a fine action too. But will say the atlas seems "tighter" Machining appears to a bit nicer.. ultimately went with another atlas for my new build.

Like the standard finish on the dasher, but will be too shiny for the 300. Thinking of painting but from comment above might look into a bead blast. But recommend the action, they are on par pricing wise with the stiller

either ejector works good,,,the static can only toss the spent round to the opposite side from the bolt release (out the same side as the bolt handle) ...sooo if you get the loading port on the opposite side from the bolt handle the MI style (spring loaded plunger) must be used,,,,the price is ~300$ less than a Panda (cant remember what mine cost,,,call Jim or Ian),,,,,,dont hold them to my guess!!!hahaha.....Roger
