Keepin' It Clean

Trying to keep cleaning solvent of my my Remington 700 trigger has been a challenge. If I slip a rag into the slot between the bore guide an the trigger to catch any solvent that might find its way into that region the rag gets in the way of the cleaning rod or tends to work itself lose.
I found some facial swabs at the dollar store the other day and decided to try them out. Hey, it's only a buck .... and there's 80 in a pack.
Folding one in half and slipping it into to the space between top of the trigger and the bore guide worked beautifully. It remains in place better than a rag or cleaning patch and doesn't let the solvent migrate through its fibers like the patch seems to do.

Might be a "bloody good" idea.

Wish you could use them as patches. Much cheaper and might have use for 50 cal, muzzleloader and shotguns.

I have the Sinclair bore guide, as well as the Flying Fish version, and neither one lets any solvent/cleaner into the trigger. Maybe you need a new o-ring on the guide, or a different guide altogether.

My bore guides protect the magazine and trigger assemblies from solvent intrusion from the chamber end but when use a very wet patch some of the solvent sometimes runs onto the lower part of the bore guide and that means some of it can work its way down the underside of the bore guide where it might possibly rip into the trigger assembly. Using a patch in the way described is simply a safety measure to prevent solvent intrusion of those circumstances develop. It helps with the cleaning set up to have one less potential problem to have to deal with.

No need to stuff anything into the trigger area. Soak/Flush with Lighter Fluid. Arnold Jewell [Jewell Triggers] taught me that. :)

I use what I call a diapers, 4 mil plastic sheets to protect the stock and keep stuff out of the triggers. They slide under the guide, are long enough to reach just past the end of the buttstock and wrap around the stock, the two sides stuck together on the bottom with velcro.

They're cheap, reusable and easy to clean with a paper towel.

The two in my cleaning box have "Maytag" printed on them! ;D

I'll bet Dewey has a rod that will make you happy. Get a Lucas bore guide - they have a solvent port so you don't slop solvent into your action/trigger.
