Keep it or sell it?

I have an XP-100 in 7mm BR. I am trying to decide if I should sell it and put the money towards a custom action or strip it and use the action for my 6mm BR build. I can blueprint the action myself so that won't cost me anything. What do you guys think is the best way to go?

Personally I would sell it because the swept forward bolt would look wierd on a rifle and might not fit in some rifle stocks.

Sell it, as a Specialty Pistol shooter I hate to see a great pistol disassembled to make just another rifle

As mentioned SELL IT--I am one who also hates to see a Clean Collector Type weapon Parted out to make a Custom--10 years ago I would have said Use it--BUT nice clean XP's are hard to find today

Good Luck

Jim

It depends. If you can sell the thing complete and get a reasonable price for it, great. Based on several that have turned up for sale here, there doesn't seem to be a great market for them right now. The action is probably worth around $500, which will get you about 1/2 of a custom action. OTOH- a good XP action is capable of shooting (accuracy wise) with a custom. I know, I have two of them. You might just disassemble it and save the stock and barrel, use the action for a build, but keep it in mind to put the thing back together at a later date when the funds for a custom action are available.

It's all your choice,
Rick

they don't make them any more,
that said, it is a great action, pistol or converted to rifle, they are really stiff.

I had a 6x47 (222M) sleeved xp light varmet br built by Jerry Hart , lots of sub .200 groups.

you do not have a problem converting a pistol to rifle , the problem, is the reverse.

Thanks for all of your thoughts on this. My next question was going to be, what should I ask for it? I bought it used about 20+ years ago. It originally had a plastic stock on it. I made the stock from a Riehart/Fagen blank. It has a muzzle brake on it that got cut off in the picture and the face of the action was trued so the setscrew holes in the barrel are no longer on the top. It has not been out of the safe in 15 years.

I would build on it and save the parts like GreyFox mentioned...
That solid bottom is a plus on accuracy...

This sounds like the best way to go to me. If your interests change in a few years you could put it back together.

I think Greyfox, Preacher, and rwk hit the nail on the head. I am going to build on it and save the parts to put back whole again in the future.

Thanks,

After thinking about it long and hard, I am going to sell it. What would be a good asking price? I see them priced all over the place. Anywhere from $700 to $1400. What do you guys think?

Thanks,
