Just Whining about Getting Old!

Each day I come to the realization there is another thing I will never do. I used to play hockey, now I am unsteady on wet sidewalks. I had dreams of the tour, now I can't keep my balance to swing a club. I have turned the draw weight on my bow down to #50 and still get the yips. I shot 4 position smallbore and now can't get up off the floor. I rode a motorcycle and now I can't balance a bicycle. I hunted from tree stands but now can't go on a ladder to clean out the gutters. I was fishing from the shore and almost cast myself into the lake....

But somehow today I cleared brush, raked leaves, got the mower, tiller, and boat running, and had ice cream. So I guess I'm doing okay.

I have more dead friends than live one's. I still have a Rolodex on my desk from working all those years. The other day, just out of curiosity, I decided to go through it. I started pulling out the small cards with the name and phone number of the people, including many friends, that have passed on. As I looked through the ever growing stack of cards, some stood out. Some real jokers. Good times. I almost thought about dialing some of the phone numbers but then I got worried. The SOB's might pick up. :D

71 trips around the sun on my clock. Can't do some of the things I used to do but still blessed in many ways. Still kind of agile and get around fairly good. Can still climb a ladder with no issues and hold out to work all day when I have to. But sometimes things hurt more than I think they should. Just a part of getting old.

I'm 62 and this point in life I'll just be happy to still be around and active at 72 so I can whine about getting old. The mind feels like 25 happy and wondrous, the body not so much. In my case my body is on a journey where it's a bit too early to see how it works out but every day I try to get out and walk for at least 40 minutes, do my stretching, and a few minutes of strength training. I retired at the end of February and enjoying every minute of it regardless of pain. On a site related note, I have a custom gun that should finish up in the coming months, excited to spend some time with it doing what we all enjoy.

@JFrank Dreams... I love to dream and I remember many of them, they are always the same in that I'm there but it's not this me, age seems the same but I really have no idea. The places and things I've seen in dreams keeps me wanting more, few are similar and most are not this place but some variation of it. Pretty wild to say the least. While most are interesting I was fine moving to the next dream, some though are wonderful to the point if I could stay I would. I wake and for a time only want to find that same dream again.

I think when you reach a certain age you tend to understand more things in life. The biggest, is that life’s hard and short. I look out the window, and rain, shine, or in between I think, man what a beautiful day. I make sure I say thank you and please. I smile at every pretty woman I see, and some that aren’t as pretty.

When I wake up I spend a little time moving, exercising, and stretching. Being older with crappy sleep abilities, that may be in the wee hours of the morning. Had two bad falls in my life. The arthritis in my ankles and feet is a constant reminder not to give in, and keep moving.

My to do list has become a when I get around to it list. But at least I’ve got all the parts on hand to do whatever maintenance or repair that I need to do when I absolutely need to.

I had conversation with an older friend of mine a few years ago. I mentioned I needed to replace the bearings on my bush hog yoke. He made the comment, do you think it’ll last till you don’t need it anymore. Told him yep, probably so. His reply was, let the next owner worry about it.

Ya just can’t ignore advice like that… It applies to an awful lot of things.

I'm in my prime,bwahaha.

Yup,bad juju but screw it. Almost 70 and am in better mind/body shape than I've been in 40 years. Gonna bust some youngins on the trad archery 3D courses this year as a senior.

My list of injuries over the years would make Evil Kenievel proud. Broken neck, numerous other busted bones, chronic Lymes, literally left on the operating table for DEAD with a widowmaker... subsequently had two heart episodes that my Doberman "woke" me up from. Sayin my heart stopped twice, dog knew something won't right and started gnawing on me as I laid on the ground. She DEFINES service dog and won't let me out of her sight.

Y'all do what you feel is best. Me,went mainly keto... gotta ditch the sugar, that chit is POISON. And started "jailhouse" excersizing.... basically no equipment,no excuses, full on David Goggins stuff.

Well,it worked. Like said... bad juju talkin this way. I don't freakn care. The good lord did not want me yet! He kept trying to tell me,finally listened. Your body is a temple... modern diet AND drugs(big pharma owns your dr) is crux of this problem.

Peace to all of you, enjoy your family, hug your dogs.... I'll be in the woods shooting bows.

I’m usually young also and working with someone from my past but this dream was much different with great detail.
