Just had cataract surgery.

My wife was told she has stage 1 or phase 1 cataracs. I guess too soon to get them removed. She has trouble on the computer like looking thru fog she said. Not sure how slow or fast it progresses but apparently insurance companies want people walking around half blind before approving surgery.

Tell her to get a second opinion with a opthamologist. If she is have that kind of problem, she is a good candidate for surgery. It will be like going from night to day.

My cataract surgery didn't go well. I also was expecting miracles. My right eye, the only one I had done is worse now than before the surgery. I shoot right handed left eyed. Just saying there is a chance it will go bad.

It depends on the lens that is inserted in the eye. Usually the doctor uses two separate lens of different values. This will give you both near and far distance views. Talk to your doctor and determine what the problem is. Close your left eye and determine if your near or far vision improves. You might want to see another specialist for a second opinion. Doctors make mistakes and that's why the practice medicine.

When I had cataracts my eyes would get a white halo around the lights at night when I looked at them. It finally got to the point where the halos turned into circular rainbows and then I finally got my eyes done. If you need a vision correction I recommend that you have Lasik surgery if you are an eligible candidate and can afford it. If you need eye surgery I suggest that you always get a second opinion. My eyes were too bad to be corrected by Lasik so my next option was a very small corrective lens that is surgically installed in my eyes. My doctor said that even though I got the lenses that I may still have to have glasses for a complete correction. After both surgeries I no longer wear glasses with my right eye being perfect and my left is a little weaker but good enough to pass my eye exam at the DMV. I have several friends that had lenses installed and don't need any further corrections but I do know of one that ended up wearing glasses so it is a possibility. It's great to wake up in the morning and not need glasses before I'm able to see anything. I forgot to mention that I developed scar tissue by the 6 month check up which my doctor removed with a laser treatment and I get my eyes checked once a year. It has been about a year and a half and so far so good. I hope that this helps.

I used to go through that insurance crap. Now the US Gov agency I work for provides insurance in Mexico. My surgery cost me a $5 copay in a state of the art facility by a well-respected doctor. I expect the current administration is going to kill that program soon. Mike

Why would you say that Mike?

I hope my experience is not the norm, but I had it done 7-8 years ago and for 5-6 years it was great. However, now they're slowly reverting back to like before. It's to the point that I need cheaters to read again.

Just that I had trouble with Blue Shield.

Still confused, Our present administration is going to get rid of what? If you are speaking of Blue Cross-Blue Shield, I've never paid a copay with them.
Are you saying Trump's folks are going to do bad or your insurance ain't gonna be good?
I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I'm just trying to figure out your message.

Hey Mike, you are good with me. I just didn't know exactly what you were saying and not upset. I did not take it as political.

Ken, if you and Gary O'Neal are both showing fading over time, it MIGHT be a 'secondary cataract' -it is a cloudiness in the capsule of your former lens. The fix is called a capsulotomy and is pretty common. My wife developed secondary cataracts in both eyes after her initial lens implant.

Here is some more information, but obviously you need to check with you opthalmologist https://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/faq-cataract-secondary.htm

Hope this helps,

Frank

Well hell Mike! It is the Sanders, AOC, etc. future administration that wants to give you "free" everything that you should be concerned about. Cataract surgery ain't gonna help that.

Can you see both near and far without glasses after Lasik? My eye doctor (who shoots) says that Lasik is "substituting one problem for another". For example, if I had my eyes corrected for distance (which is what I wear glasses for), that I would then need glasses for reading (which I do not need now). Any truth to this?

Thats correct unless you opt for correction for all distances. I was told that procedure may be iffy. I selected distance, and have to use readers. Now after 5 yrs its beginning to fade and I cant wear glasses but for a few minutes w/o getting a head ache. I need to go back and see what happens next to correct this problem. LDS
