had mine done in november. my optometrist said i was on the edge of being a candidate for the cataracts/lenses. been wearing no line bifocals since '88. gradually increased power every 2 years of so for the next 20 years. got to the point i could see the target or the front site with open sites- but not both. went in for my annual appointment and she said still was iffy on whether they would be ready to change. meantime my buddy who is 5 years older went to the doctor and had his lenses replaced. done in a week, one eye on tuesday checkup on wednesday finished the other eye on thursday and last checkup on friday and he went back to work on the tuesday and friday after the checkups. so he said i should go see them to have the evaluation. went to the eye clinic and they agreed i would be a candidate for the lense replacement. same deal - tuesday surgery, wednesday eval, thursday surgery and friday eval. awake the whole time during surgery and in the afternoon i could see great in the one eye. only problem is one eye needed glassed and the other was fine. after the thursday surgery i could see fine with both eyes and only needed glasses to read the fine print on labels and such. no longer need to watch tv and can read the scores and scroll lines on the screen. i think it was the toric lense. the others to use no glasses at any distance were going to be 3500.00 per eye. i told him i would pop for the extra nice lense, but would be more than upset if i would have to wear glasses in a few years. i had heard of several people that had to wear reading glasses after 3-5 years even after paying up for the great lenses. he told me it does happen and there would be no guarantee LOL!!!! so i opted for the standard lenses and the standard type surgery. the laser surgery would also cost 1800.00 extra and the only benefit was a faster recovery time!!! by sat-sun i was good to go except not to lift anything over 25 lbs for bout 10 days. had to put drops in my eyes for 7days to help healing. since i had met all my medicare deductibles, i was not out anything but the money for the prescription drops - 40 bucks or so. their goal was to get me to 20-30 vision and after a week i went back in for final eval and that's what i tested.I could just as well made this very Post.
I wore glasses for 40 years, heavy bifocals. Around 12 years ago, I also had LASIK.
Because I was extremely far sighted, they gave me twin vision, the right ey for distance, the left for close up.
It was great for sbout 10 years, but now my vision has deteriorated to the point that I cannot see my flags much past 100 yards. I have to use readers periodically. I also developed some very small cataracts.
I have consulted with The Whitzett Eye Clinic, and the told me much the same info as you recieved.
I think I am going to opt for the best single vision lens implants they offer, and wear readers. It is a huge decision. The multi focal looks good on paper, but the last pair of glassesI had before LASIK we’re progressive focal, and I hated them.
They quoted me a stout price for the job. Insurance will not cover it. They did a complete eye exam, and I have no other problems with any other parts of my eyes.
My biggest problem is shutting my schedule down long enough to get it done.
Having the 1st eye done Monday. Picked up drops today......3 different ones for me.IIRC, I had the three different ones but I understand that's been reduced to one kind of drop.
I had trouble with the "halo" around lights for about 9-10 months. Much, much better afterward.I had a Panoptix Tri-focal installed last October. Presently 20/15 at distance and 20/20 reading. Seems amazing when I went in not able to see flags past 100 and was wearing 2.75 readers before the surgery.
Very pleased.
But,,, I do see rings around lights, and get some weird sensations from the side when indoors especially with different light sources. All has been getting better over time tho. Outdoor vision is extremely good. Indoor with limited light, I do have diminished contrast.
If you do reconsider getting any type of multifocal lense, I strongly suggest going to someone that specializes in their application.
Both eyes 20/20 uncorrected. Sharp crosshairs and round red dots. Can't see squat up close without glasses but that was expected. Get progressives in month, life is good so far.Got my right eye done last wed with toric lens. Sight is 20/20 now with crosshairs much sharper. Get the left done this wed. Ill lose close up vision but distance is great so far. Ill get progressive eyewear after a few weeks so I can see close and far with glasses all the time. So far a piece of cake. Red dot is now perfectly round without glasses.
