Just got home from MCRD Parris Island......

Went down to see my nephew "graduate" from basic training. Six platoons were in formation on the drill field when they announced "Will you please stand for our National Anthem..."
There might have been some communist, liberal, left wing, democrats present...but you can best believe there was not a one that "took a knee" for THAT National Anthem!!!!!
Not then...not before...and never after. His life would certainly take on a dramatic change...

Is that blasted hill still there? I was hoping it would have been worn down after 70 years ! Yeah... and with a FULL FIELD TRANSPORT PACK TOO !.
Mount MF, Reaper, Recon Ridge. They were all still there 25 years ago. I'm sure it sucks humping up them today as it did then. AND IT DID SUCK!!!

Is't that were they train all the WM's.....lol Sempier FI
Not ALL. We had some in MCRD, and more in Pendleton as well. One day, upon returning from "over there", my CO asked me to take the platoon out to the parade field, and put them through the "motions". I was kind of shocked...because I am an 81mm mortar guy, NOT a DI. !
So....off we went. There were some "Bams" on the parade field as well, and of COURSE..I had to show them what it was like to watch a platoon of marines go through the motions of the command... MARCHING MANUAL... HRRRR !!. Too funny.. 16 differant movements with an M-1 with a tight strap... making noise, going from one shoulder to the other and everything inbetween, each time slapping the tight sling. ( showing off of course) Too funny. You DO realize... that I was "showing off" for the Bams, giving executions to put us in close proximity to the marching "girls". Needless to say, Their "DI" did not appreciate it.

My Friend...
That "hill "( if you will), caused at least one guy to go "over the hill". I watched him climb the fence while pulling guard duty one night, and wished him luck. He was headed toward the airport in San Diego. MAY HE NEVER GET CAUGHT ! Now then...the reason we were put through .....what they PUT us through...was...we were headed to a place where there was nothing BUT hills. That was KOREA. They knew what they were doing...Most of us did not, ( at least)...not me ! There you have it.

Yeah... they got to me too , to the point where I had 4 "cleats" installed on my dress shoes so everybody could hear me coming ! Front, back, and both sides... I just turned 18 then , and that was 70 years ago ......

When I was a PMI for my Battalion we would shoot at Wilcox Range. The sack lunches we would get for the shooters from the chow hall we called "BAG NASTIES". And they were nasty, because they came from the chow hall. We used to tell a joke "What do you call a WM (Woman Marine) in a sleeping bag?" A BAG NASTY.

Why did they always put the smaller guys in the back on those humps. I can remember the platoon starting to string out halfway up Mount MF. Gaps were starting to open up and Drill Instructors were yelling at us to close the gap. Several times it felt like we were jogging in the back to close these gaps. You learn to stay pretty close the guy in front of you.

Ah ya bunch of boot "Hollywood" feather merchants! Parris Island 1964.
Okay, I'll be the boot here! P.I. 3054 Mighty Mike 1996! Still active, but with broken service. On my way out! RETIREMENT!!!!

Just a note from the inside! These young men and women are under paid, over work, under supplied, never given prays, never see their families, are always told what to do and NEVER COMPLAIN!
And all the while are standing at the door waiting for the wolf, holding up this Nation and defending the CONSITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR FOOZBALL GAME! NO ONE CARES!

I'm just glad to have been a part of an organization that has never been influenced by political agendas! We don't support politics, we give politics the right to exist!

Feel ya, I'm the short guy too!!!

Nothing better then a bunch of old Marines shit talking!!!! Never gets old!!! Love you guys!
Now and then, I'll see a guy here wearing a jacket with the Marine Corps eblem ans all the fancy writing that goes with it. I always want to ask them... what was your MOS? I can tell you this... It sure wasn't 0300, or the likes of it. I have never met a grunt that made a life out of it. Futhermor... you don't make rank as a grunt either. Took me 26 mo. ( with a year of combat) to get a second stripe, and that was MERITORIUS , ( through a firing mission ) that made the brass look good.
Yet, I was in school with a pair of twin brothers that played basketball in school. They joined the Corps...guess what they did ? you guessed it. played basketball. They came out in 3 years, ( like me) but with 3 up & 1 down. Yeah....staff. sgt. That sucks too...

Joe, times are a bit different these days! Trust me, really different. These days, Marines are putting on Cpl. in three years and if your shit hot, Sgt in four. Not going to lie, I was a fast mover as well. I started in the infantry as an 0331. Switch to am 0352( Missileman) after a break from the Corps at 29 yrs old. Went from PFC to Sgt in 18 months and to SSgt in under 5yrs. Pretty unheard of, even at that time. Guess I was just shit hot. Had a lot of deployments to some very not nice places too! As a Sgt, I went EOD and before my 9 yrs mark, got Gunny. With EOD being such a small field, its not a big surprise to have guys pick up fast. Gunny was my longest and favorite rank ever! You are the guy that everyone looks up to and wants to be when they grow up! Put on MSgt at just over 15yrs, again most MOS dont see this until their late teens of service if they are lucky. I'm at 17 yrs now and after to many deployments the body is broken and battered. After several surgeries, it does not look like i will make my 20. Dont worry, I'll be fine! Again, times have changed with taking care of our servicemembers after the fact too!!!!

See what ya started? This thread was from 2018 and lasted posted on in 2019, and you had to raddle the cage of a bunch of old Marines! Now they are all fired up! Nothing will ever change! We are what we are!
Thank you for raddling the cage fine Sir! This has been a great conversation!
