The Bushnell manual has nothing particularly useful

If you want to go down another rabbit hole go look for them on a Leopold. They are just as bad. They are selling 90% of their scopes to people who think mil stands for military. They work great for them.
Put that Athlon on a 50 BMG with a clamshell brake and tell me they are better then a Mark 4 and a Nightforce. Those two are about the only two that show up at 50 cal. Shoots because they will hold up. MattThe Most Accurate Comment I have seen here in years.... Get's the Silver Bullet Trophy for sure!
Best Value for quality I have seen and superb value though is from Athlon Optics. Turrets matched with precision hashmark reticle, FFP at no extra cost, Illuminated with side-focus even at sub $300 price point, and their 2nd focal gear and MOA gear is same quality, but with the extra fractions to conted with, who chooses SFP or MOA? If cost of FFP and Mil-Rad is no longer an issue, you go with them; right?
The build quality and features, not to mention Optics are really Wowzer. Then, there's the savings.... Only big reason I stayed with Leupold mk4 and went to Vortex Viper PST over NightForce 8-32x 56mm I owned years back was the weight, plus the optics weren't that great; oh and the money...
The 2 Athlon Argos BTR's I have had for 2wks are comparable to the NF NXS, but are easily modded to even do a Zero-Stop turret. Very pleased with all the quality and features. The optics are great, but for under $400? These are a Real WOW!
The math is way easier in the field using Mil-Radian esp w/precision reticle rather than dots.
Compare Athlon on features and quality. The only thing my Leupold 4.5-14x 50mm mark 4 has over the $389 Athlon is better paint.
Is paint lustre worth $1000 to you? Not up to me to answer that one...
Nope I just stated known facts. A scope can be clear as a bell but if it doesn't hold point of impact it is worthless. Nightforce is made in Idaho and March is made in Japan. MattHi ya Matt!
Had a 16x mk4 with the m1 turrets, mil-dot; and still have 2 other 10x's and a 6x. Yessir, they are tough! Not really too likely that either the Mk4 or the NXS is gonna have matched turrets, or FFP; except the new ATACR series of NF. But I haven't kept up with them.
If talking about "matching up", the Cronus BTR is said by those who've tested them to be a "match" for S&B P-M and ATACR, Kahles which is Swarovski mil-spec, and basic Hensoldt. The Cronus BTR is made at the Light Optical Works. Home of March, NF and other premier brands in the tactical and precision shooting optics realm.
I spent some time, yesterday, making a precision spacer for my $369 ArgosBTR, and darned if that scope does not now have a decent Zero-Stop.
I dunno how many guys here are shooting "Precision 50BMG", I always liked the value and features on Leupy Mk4. I have 5 of them still. Did get rid of both my Vortex Viper PSTs which I thought were a right there with the variable Mk4s. The Argos BTR is right there with both. I sold my NF NXS 8-32x 56mm almost 10yrs ago. Too heavy, compared to Mk4 variable that I owned, not the best reticle, and optics weren't that wonderful. I did work as a photographer and so evaluate optical performancde of rifle scopes from that background, all the while remembering they are first and most critically, rifle sights. I also owned a 2.5-10x 24mm NXS and it was okay, not phenomenal. In fact, Not Phenomenal is a good description of my NF experience. Cost me about $3000 to learn most shooters raving about their optic qualty, know nothing about optics.
Kind of always a coarse, throw down the gauntlet, interaction from you; no matter the topic. Were you a marine sniper? Work for some PD now? The Federal guys are usually more polished, but they have so many employees at arms. Would not be surprised if the Smithsonian national library didn't have a sniper team and SWAT squad that specialized on "in the stacks" interventions...
But anyway, I do recall one guy who is a noted sniping instructor remarking that "only S&B P-M scopes could take being left on a car's dash or out in direct sun during July or August in So. Texas. Does get hot there... There's all sorts of tests. Probably some you never thought of. Shooting with precision support gear at targets that don't move or shoot back is really some pansy stuff. At least the Palma, HP and SR guys have to hold hard and shoot unsuported. Tell me about holding your 50bmg Barrett with a 1917 sling while your reticle dances like a dervish.
