I just bought a 4.5x 18x40, AR223 , BDC, First I go to a local gun store, I asked is this reticle in MILS or MOA it doesn't say on the box or advertisement, he said no it's just for the 223, I said there must be a certain amount of distance between each dot, he said no there isn't, I said that's not possible and left, so when It came I still wanted to know the distance on each dot, I called Bushnell he said the same thing it's just for the 223, so I said to myself, self, let's try to range with it and that will tell me something.
Formula: =SUM(A2/36*1000/A4)
(Height of Target in Yards x 1,000) ÷ Height of Target in Mils = Range of the Target in Yards
From my patio table to fence post in the yard is 65 yards, I've measured it, give or take a couple due to tape measure moving around, I use this on other MIl and MOA scopes, the part I was measuring is 7 inches long and it took up 3 mil that equals 64.81 yards I know now it's in Mils, I also checked it with another scope I just bought and haven't' mounted it yet it is a Vortex 6x24x50 XLR FFP, it measured 10 MOA, but it was really hard keeping it still just holding it in my hands, but even at 10 MOA that equals 66.8 yards.
I just found it nut's that no one knows what they're selling, that wouldn't happen if you cal Vortex , Leopold or Nightforce
Long time ago I made a spreadsheet with all the formula's for calculating Mil or MOA, it comes in handy.
