Juniors at Atterbury

Taking (hopefully) a junior team (Wickenburg High School Rifle Team) to Camp Atterbury this summer for the F class Mid Range. Have never been there and would like to pick your collective brains on what we should prepare. Staying in barracks. Do we need carts? Bugs? Anything that you folks would think we need to know about. Thanks in advance.

When you say "For the F class midrange" what are you referring to? State championship, regional championship, club shoot? (Seconds after I posted this I just remembered about Nationals. If that's the case disregard everything below that I say).

State is a 1 day shoot. Regional is 2 days. All F class championships at the club are 3x600 but the club shoots offer both 3,5,6 and 3x6 same day.

Sunscreen and bug spray recommended but bugs usually aren't too bad but be prepared.

All targets are sliver mountain e targets so each shooter needs to provide their own tablet or smart phone(tablets work best). You can obviously share among yourselves depending how many you have on the line at a time.

Carts are helpful but the 600yrd line is about 100yrd from the parking and we could likely allow you to unload at the line but arrange that in advance with Shawn Agne the match director.

Most of all, just come to have fun. It's a pretty relaxed environment. How many are you looking to bring because those shoots are usually popular but with component shortages this may be an odd year.

Thanks anyway Bob. One of my questions was about how far we'd have to carry equipment.

If carting gear around for your juniors is a concern, I'd be happy to loan you my Fold-It cart for the week. I'm 20 mins south of Atterbury, and won't be shooting that week. I'd be happy to meet up and hand it off for you to use, just let me know.

Thanks for the offer Ryan and we'll take you up on it. We're kind of waiting to hear from our school board and our transportation dept to find out if we can get a small bus. If we get one we'll have enough room to carry our own to the shoot. If we have to take a van then we'll be needing some carts for sure. I'll keep you in mind and appreciate the offer!!!

No problem at all. Let me know when your plans firm up and I might be able to help scrounge up a couple more for you from other guys that are somewhat local to Atterbury.

For our Desert kids , I suggest they take what we would consider a "Fall" out-fit of clothing , and a moderately warm jacket . For "just-in-case" on cool , damp evenings . Our kids aren't used to those mid-western nights that turn really cool and damp . Like after a quick rain shower passes through . And a reasonable amount of "Off" , or some other mosquito spray . Atterbury is in farmland area ... And a few of those 3' x 5' blue tarps to put over equipment , for those , "It doesn't rain here , days " . Wish them "Good Luck" , and they should know that all their supporters and crew from DSS and RRRC are pulling for them .
