Hey everyone!

I am new to this forum.. but have been doing some research and figured this may be the best place to ask some questions.

I’ve recently purchased a collection of long range rifles and they came with these beautiful rests from John Loh aka Santa Claus!

They’re both in working condition and one is in flawless shape.. the other still in great shape you can just tell they’ve been used for some competitions.

The owner of the rifles was a multiple 1st place 1,000 yard rifle champion. And I am just curious to learn more of a backstory on the rests as well as see how much one of these would happen to be worth ballpark?

Thank you!

900-1150 is the normal selling price. The green one looks like an older model so would be on the lower end of the price scale. They are the nicest non joystick rest you can buy and since he passed, they are not made anymore. I’d hang on them if you don’t need to part with them.

The black on was made in 2010 and it was the 75th baseplate made. Both need some screws and an oil change and will be like new. Great rests. I used to help him assemble them at his shop. The green one was made for Mike Marcelli.
Oh wow! That’s super cool. I appreciate the history Chris. Thank you!

Would you mind sharing about the oil change. I also recently purchased a rifle with a JJ Loh rest (2010 era as well). I've given it a good cleaning, unsure about oil type, quantity....

Many thanks.

I think Chris, is trying to say it needs a fluff and buff. Remove the grit and dirt and lightly lube where, bearing and sliding metal to metal....surfaces. I used compressed air and a towel.

I think there's more to it than that, I remember reading in this forum in the past that these rests are actually oil filled, as a dampening system.
Edit: oil filled internal lubrication.

If so unless it leaks out why would you mess with it.

The oil can run out as it gets used up, apparently. Sounds like 30W oil is recommended. Just found a couple of threads about it:

They are one of the very best knob rests as far as I am concerned. I bought mine from John maybe a year or two before he passed. He was a nice gentleman. I have several of his presses too. They are the same high quality as his rests.

My other rest is a Lenzi joystick rest. Both are extremely high quality and although I have used the Lenzi for a couple years now, I can’t bring myself to sell the Loh.

You have two of the best rests out there.

Good luck,
Dave.

Are you looking to sell one? I'm interested in the black one. IM me if your interested.
The Loh rests are the Cadillac of knob style rests. I've got one with two tops...a 2 1/4" for the Hunter gun and a 3" for the Varmint class gun.

They rarely come up for sale. This thread is from two years ago....if you're interested in one, you might try a 'Wanted' add in the Buy/Sell section. They're out there. ;) -Al
