Sammyg,

John made rests that varied a bit in their design through the years. There was a kind of hydraulic adjustment that I don't think he made for it, and was made by someone else, Is this what you are referring to? I know a shooter with one. Please place a picture of it here, or PM me with the picture, and we can go from there. I know with the gunsmith who bought the rights to all of John's products, and may have an answer for you.

The standard rest only needs to be clean with a very light oil on the rods and the vertical adjustment wheel.

The JJ rest should be oiled. The 4 screw shown in the above photos are the oil point. This keeps the cross shaft lubed by letting a small amount of oil leak onto the shaft as the windage is operated. 30w motor oil works well. How often would be determined by usage. I fill with oil when the shaft is dry.

I pulled 1 of 4 screws out and there is purple oil in it .after replacing screw I realized if you go below flush oil will ooze out on the rods.

This is it billbonser. I would like to know the gunsmith who bought the rights to John loh products,in case I need parts or knowledge, if you don't mind. Thank you.
