JJ Industries or Viper front rest

I'm in the market for a heavy and solid front rest I think I've narrowed down my choices between either the JJ Industries rest or a Viper. Cani get some input from you guys who own one or have owned both?
I currently have one of the older Hart 1000 yard rest with the plate attached and I also have one of the flimsy sinclair competition rests. The hart is heavy but it's not square with the bag and as said the sinclair is just poorly built and flimsy.

James,
I cannot speak for the Hart, but a good friend has a "JJ" rest that he's had for many years. He keeps it in a case and hence it looks new even after many years of use and competition. From my observations, it is a very sturdy, solid and dependable rest with finite adjustability. I don't compete and shoot strictly for fun so I can't justify spending the money. But if I did compete, I'd SERIOUSLY consider buying a JJ as I've found my friend's rest to be of top notch quality and worthy of serious consideration. Just my thoughts.

James,

No experience with a JJ, so I can't compare. However, I have 4 Viper rests in my family, I have a benchrest Viper, a Fclass Viper and my Daughters each have their own Fclass Viper. They're are solid as a rest can be. They are truly custom and unique, no two are alike.

You owe it to yourself to at a minimum to call up the Viper himself and chat about what your wants and needs are. Cause if you want it a certain way, the Viper can do it.

If your interested in what mine look like, I have some pix I can share. I will be posting pix of the latest addition shortly as I just got mine latest Viper this week.

What do you consider flimsy about the Sinclair? My dial indicator says that it doesnt flex any more than my Farley.

Raise the center post up and put a 17-28# gun on it and watch it flex as you slide the rifle back and forth.

James i shoot off a Sinclair Competition rest i did so modifying to it but at 35 lb. i wouldn't say it was flimsy…… But i made a new center screw with an 8 thread and dumped that stupid bearing and increased the spring pressure on the windage adjustment. Now i just machined out a new aluminum base plate to reduce the weight. now it weighs 20 lb. and guess what i shot a 4" and two 5's 10 shot groups off it so i don't think you need the weight. I had Neo's and JJ's, Farley but never a Viper but i will say that the my Sinclair is better. I don't have to move my hand for windage or elevation the JJ you do … and there isn't enough elevation for some ranges so you will need a 1"block riser. Neo's have their own issues same as Farley so you fix it or live with it. James my Sinclair is rock solid all the way up. i don't use a speed screw either but my legs are 1/2 20's with carbide inserts also. I also have a Century 21 front rest that uses ball screws and it is rock solid and smooooth……… jim

For those of you that use a JJ Industries rest for F class what are you using for feet? I have tried to contact JJ for recommendations but have not heard from them.

James,

You will not be disappointed with a big heavy VIPER.
They may not be as trendy as a coaxial, but they are totally rock-solid with nothing that can break or slip.

Cheers.

I have one of John's (JJ) rest and have been very happy with it. It is a very nicely made piece of CNC aluminum. The speed screw and windage adjustment are second to none. Never had/tried a Viper but have good things about them as well.
