Jim Briggs of Northland Shooting Supply

I was just wondering if anyone here knows if something has happened to Jim Briggs of Northland Shooting Supply out of Minn.

A close friend of mine bought a pre-chamber replacement Shilen Barrel from Jim for his Model 12 F-Class Savage. Upon recieving the barrel, its found that the barrel will not work, as its throated way to short. The barrel was advertisied as a factory replacement...just screw on, headspace with nut, and shoot..

After more than 3 weeks and numberous calls, we can't reach anyone or get any returned calls. I hope that everything is ok with Jim, but by the same token, this is not good business of being unreachable after the sale, and not returning calls.

If anyone know of Jim or can help us in reaching him, please drop me a private email. I'm sure there is a break down somewhere here, as many people have said good things about him ...That's the reason for buying from him..

Thanks in advacned...

Jim was also moving his shop to a new location in the past few weeks and has all new contact info. I dont know if he just moved his shop or his residence also. I'll see if I can get the new info.

I highly doubt he is avoiding you in any way. Ive talked to Jim several times and had many dealings with him and he has always been an honest and professional person.

All in all, if your barrel is throated wrong you may want to contact Shilen directly since they made the barrel. I'm sure if they agree you have a defective barrel they will take care of it.

Jims new phone number is ,763) 682-6098.

I'll send you a pm with the rest of his new contact info.

I'd have to second the notion of Jim being a stand up guy. My interaction with him was excellent. I know that he will rectify the situation when he is available.

I've delt with Jim on several occasions and he is good as gold. I'm sure there is a valid explanation. teele1

Have been buying from Jim Briggs for quite a while. Have had several business dealings with him -- large and small. Would trust Jim in any business deal to do the right thing. Never any doubt.

Have also had many business dealings with Shilen Barrels. Have complete faith in Wade Hull, the president of Shilen.

I've dealt with him on two McGowen barrels and he's a nice guy but I had to manage the details of the two barrels very closely, threaded muzzle, etc.). In the end, I talked directly with McGowen to get some things straightened out.

Call Shilen directly to get the problem resolved. Don't get someone else in the middle, IMHO. They will fix you up quickly.

I had to send them a 6br barrel for lengthening the throat. No problem after that.

++++1 on Jim. Great guy. As has been mentioned he moved his shop and has missed calls coming in. If you get hold of him, all will be well. Dealt with him many times.

Moving my shop from Maple Grove to Buffalo has turned into a real project. Biggest problem is setting up my storage system for parts and setting up the new household while trying to keep the business operating. I would be the first to admit that I have a few messages to catch up on,e-mails and PM's).

As far as an issue with either Shilen or McGowen Barrels, I order these to the SAAMI specifications for my stock. Several reamers are now being offered with longer throats,6 BR Norma, 6.5X284, 6.5X47 Lapua and 6X47 Lapua and such) If you have had me order a Barrel for you from either supplier. You can speak directly with that supplier if you choose to.

I see that a few members have taken a moment and posted my new address and phone numbers. After 19 years at the other address and phone number, I am sure it will take a while to bring everyone up to speed. Please feel free to contact me directly if I can be of assistance.

Thanks Jim for clarifying your whereabouts. We were getting ready to call the National Guard, cause all of us Savage nuts gotta get our fix of parts now and then.

I'd also like to appoligize to falconpilot as I actually gave you Jims fax number instead of his phone number. I was in a hurry when I looked it up and overlooked it. Forunately there were others who corrected my mistake for you.

Good luck with your barrel issue.

Thanks to everyone here for the info, and thanks to Jim, as I believe that my buddy and him have spoken, and everything is good.

Jim, Good luck with your new move and God Speed...
