Jewell triggers

what trigger is better for br shooting .. jewell or bix and andy
I think it's what you get use to. I have two friends that shoot B&A and their triggers are great but feel different to me, I've shot Jewells for 40yrs and know how to set them, clean them, and feel comfortable with their "feel". I think I shoot better with the Jewells, if I was starting over and didn't have all my rifles already equipped with Jewells I would probably go with B&A, I like the design and think they are more durable than Jewells. You blank a primer with a jewell and it's back to them and 75 bucks, the B&A keeps running, just my experience... John

What is blanking a primer? I am building a rifle with a Jewel br trigger and want to avoid issues with it.

The trigger i have now Is s Remington/burns conversion. I am assuming it's close to a jewell trigger.
I was Just looking at the cost difference and wonder if the extra cost was worth the bix.
I know buy once cry once

I shoot them both. There is a slight difference but not enough for me to notice. The Bix is more sensitive to getting dirty and you can not clean it with lighter fluid like you can a jewell. The Bix seems a little lighter and maybe breaks cleaner.

While I've done it successfully a couple times, cleaning a Bix does require disassembling it and making sure the little pieces and spring don't go flying.

I always did the disassembly and reassembly with the trigger inside a plastic bag.

I don't have my bolt actions anymore; if I do get another, I'd want backups to the ball bearings and to the springs.

I took one of my Bix triggers apart and did the slight buffing that Alex posted. Really easy if you look at the his post and take pictures as you go.

I have never taken a Jewell apart. Never had a need to.

Fire forming brass that's a little under size, sometimes the case can backup enough for the firing pin to punch a perfect hole in the primer, or if in extreme temperature a powder that is temperature sensitive and loaded too close the red line with a weak firing pin spring will do the same thing. That's a poor explanation but close as I can get to putting it in print, but anyway the gas will blow the firing pin system back against the trigger release with enough force to break one of the parts in the trigger and upon examination the jewell fokes know instantly what caused it and just grin as they write out a bill for around 75 bucks. And they are right because it's operator stupidity in either case... John

Thanks, I know what you are describing. I have done it on a hot day when shooting heavy bullets and using cci 400s. Found a tiny round piece of brass on the mat and didn’t realize it was from a primer until I got home and noticed the hole in one of the primers.

I would be extremely careful about getting in to a Jewell right now. I've received two triggers from them in the last month that do not work. Sent one back and got it back "repaired". It was not repaired. The other, they claimed that they sent a replacement 3 weeks ago. Tracking number still doesn't register- today. They are now telling me to send the before mentioned "repaired" trigger back for another repair. And that they will "look in to it Monday" on the other one that was to be replaced. One trigger was purchased from Bruno's and they will not do anything but in-store credit for the trigger because they are "completely done" with Jewell since the new leadership has occurred. Jewell has always been a great trigger manufacturer but this is a fall from grace if I've ever seen it. I'm not a basher, I give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but I have two guys out 300 each, and a gunsmith that's out around 7k until they resolve this. They're 3.5 hours down the road from me and we still don't have this fixed over a month. I understand that everyone goes through hard times but I have the suspicion that they don't care anymore. Take that for what it's worth.

That’s sure sad news, but thank you for the heads up.

I had the same problem as you with a repair of a brand new trigger that would fire when the safety was flipped from safe to fire. After poor communication on their part, I received the trigger back with no paperwork. I installed the trigger and same problem. I even found the screws on the side plate where all loose. I now am the proud owner of a TriggerTech.
