Larry, how about you quantify the demand a little - how many Jewel triggers did you sell in your best 3 year run?I was hoping by now that someone w/deep pockets would have bought the
company and I could go back to work. At this late stage of the game, there must have been some legal issues that prohibited the company from being sold. Looks like I will just settle for being handsome rather than handsome and RICH. Just sayin. LDS
As well as I hope he did selling them, ya still gotta think he was a small fish in a big pond to the average guy who buys from Midway, Brownells etc. I'm not sure we can accurately gauge much from knowing his business, frankly. They made several models that appealed to people outside of the BR community. Larry may know this but I'd bet Jewell's sales were likely 10x for the HBR trigger vs the no safety br model, just for example. The vast majority of people would think it's crazy to offer a trigger without any kind of safety.Larry, how about you quantify the demand a little - how many Jewel triggers did you sell in your best 3 year run?
When I ordered my Jewels triggers, I always spoke to Brian. I know who Larry is now. lol
I've purchased around a dozen Jewel BR triggers for my competition rifles and they have never failedI will answer the quantity number the way Rolls Royse answered what the HP of their engine was, SUFFICIENT. I was told by one of JEWELLS employees that my sales numbers exceeded the numbers combined of their two biggest vendors. When I started, Jewell pricing at some vendors was already mid $200.00. Had it not been for my pricing, when JEWELL closed, every model would have been retail of $300.00 or more. When I started I was green as grass about selling, but learned quickly that you have to have a drawing card to stand out above all other vendors. That was PRICE(Best delivered price in the nation) From day one my price included FREE SHIPPING, that no other vendor offered. Next all packages were mailed. That meant a customer got his trigger at least 2 days quicker than by any other carrier. When we took your order, if the mail had nor run that day, that meant you order mailed the same day. Click and Ship had not been invented when I started, so I had to make a trip daily to the PO(12mi one way) to be sure I offered the best customer service on the planet. When I became aware of Postal Click&Ship my life got simpler. Back to sales numbers, I went for yrs w/o having failed to sell at least one trigger per day up as high as 22 in a day. This was before I was forced to automate my sales system because of lack of inventory. JEWELL decided to EXPORT, that caused me to run out of product, because they couldn't supply the world w/the same mfg staff that serviced the States. Answering the ph multiple times daily w/no sales and attempting to project when my next delivery would be, got old in a hurry. They destroyed a business that it took me yrs to build, in short order. When Jewell finally decided the export business was not what they thought, my business had already suffered, to never come back to its peak yrs. All I can say it was fun/profitable and enlightening. I got to talk to so many from all parts of the US, and share in their rifle activities. I did learn one thing in my 20plus yrs of being YOUR JEWELL TRIGGER DEALER, that buyers are more satisfied TALKING to a real person than they ever will be filling out an internet form. I'll be standing by waiting for your call that you are now the owner of JEWELL, and you want me to be your JEWELL TRIGGER DEALER. LDS
I’m just glad I got one shortly after they started drying up. I have not felt a lifetime of triggers but one would have to be pretty awesome to top this suckerI think the market for Jewell triggers has severely diminished over the past 20 years. I know lots of people here want one, but this is a small pool.
Something like a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush?Someone once posted that Tony Boyer had switched to B&A. My reply unless his was a freebie, he was already a winner w/a Jewell, How was a trigger that cost twice as much going to help ???? LDS
Might be okay for you. But we need under 2 oz.I was talking to a guy at Perry, and he likes the Huber trigger for his rifles.
As far as I know I could sell any brand out there. But in what quantity, it would be like a crap shoot. Most brands have so many models w/different options, that I could easily spend a 100k and not have the trigger that a customer wanted. That what I liked about Jewell, the simplicity: It was either RH/LH with or w/o a safety or Bolt release, top safety/bottom safety or just a simple Bench Rest model. Jewell had ONE trigger shoe shape and a special order LONG SHOE(sold 2 in 20Yrs), like it or leave it, some companies have as many as 4 trigger shoe shapes. Options like that will overload a seller trying to project the market on what will sell. A company can offer to many options and literally hurt themselves with that. A smart man once told me to succeed in selling, sell as few selections as possible but sell as many of that item as possible there by cutting down on inventory. With so many brands that have so many models w/so many vendors, I would just be a little fish in a big pond. Unless Jewell comes back, at my age I think I'll stay out of the market. LDSCan you sell Shilen?
Thats what I will be using
Now there is a brand I have never heard of. LDSI was talking to a guy at Perry, and he likes the Huber trigger for his rifles.
I like Huber's service rifle trigger. Does a good job.Now there is a brand I have never heard of. LDS
My $.02 worth. Here's a guy (Larry) that has been there and done it. His analysis is right on the money in my opinion. I would venture to say most peoples comment is just they simply haven't been there to see how tough small business can be...to be successful. As far as I know I could sell any brand out there.
