Jewell Trigger sear engagement issue on HVR top safety version

So, I went to re-install my previously working Jewell trigger and everything seemed fine. Then, all of a sudden, the trigger sear would not engage when the bolt was closed and the firing pin would fall.

Having said that, if I were to pull the bolt back, engage the safety to the SAFE position, then put it back to the FIRE position, the sear would engage and I can pull the trigger to fire it.

Has anyone seen this before? Is there a fix for this without necessarily sending the trigger back?

Try the trigger set up procedure in the instructions, that should fix the problem.

I followed the instructions still and no bueno. I did clean it up with some lighter fluid maybe a week prior and I suspected that it gunked it up because I can actually get it to reset if I joggled the trigger a bit.

So, I took it apart and cleaned it all up (and there was some stuff in there).

Put it back together and now it works flawlessly after about 50 dry fires.

You might want to look up the article by Jack Neary about cleaning up & improving Jewell triggers. It is in the articles on this site from a few years ago.
