Jewell Trigger question

Is it possible to modify a top safety model by purchasing the bottom safety lever, and swapping them out? I have looked at the diagrams of two trigger models and it looks to me as if the triggers are the same but have different levers.

The reason I'm asking is that I've had scare to where the safety must have caught on my clothing or something else, taking a rifle off safety. I'm a safety fanatic, and if this requires no modification, just a simple swap of levers, I'd like to do this--I have 4 rifles with Jewell top safety triggers. (I think the safety in the trigger guard would be much less likely to be accidentally activated.)

P.S. I'm fully capable of swapping levers. I am a fully competent lathe and mill operator, and do some of my own gunsmithing. (I would never touch the internals of a Jewell trigger, though.)

Thanks for your input.

some people are un-ez with the safety in the trigger guard,,,when they let it off,,,they accidentally touch the trigger and BOOOM....of course some people should not be handeling firearms,,,,Roger

The only place you can purchase the safety lever is from Jewell, if he will sell to you. Why not send the trigger to Jewell and have him retrofit to bottom safety. I'd do one and try it out. If it's for hunting and you're wearing gloves the bottom safety may not be what you want.

... and don't be concerned about taking a Jewell apart -- they are mechanically simple, easy to disassemble and reassemble. It's one of their many charms.

I cant answer your question, but when I am hunting I carry the gun with a full mag and empty chamber. No safety required. I'd never trust a safety.

OP,
To answer your question in regards to just swapping the safety levers on Jewell HVR trigger groups.
The answer is NO,you can't just swap levers.
You'll need other hardware & require drilling/tapping a hole for the lever to pivot.

Sorry for the hyjack, but kind of on the same lines...can Jewel service a trigger? I have one with the bottom safety and it will not move...stuck in the fire position. Normally I don't care because this has been a dedicated bench rig....when I am not actually shooting, the bolt is out. But I am in the process of turning this into a dual purpose rig and need the safety.

Swap the spring end for end & invert should render the safety operational.

HVRTSBR safety lever springs can be swapped end for end to defeat/lock out the safety.

Yes they can and will. Call them first.

Thanks for all the replies. Lots of good thoughts to ponder. I must agree that an empty chamber is the best safety mechanism on the market. I've got several rifles that are yet to be equipped with a Jewell, so I may purchase one with a bottom safety to try it.
