Jewell Trigger Problem, Won't Cock

Borden action, Jewell trigger (BR), when I rack the bolt and pull the trigger it will go off but it may take 2 or 3 racks to get it to cock again. I cleaned the trigger with brake cleaner (nearly the whole can) and blew it out with canned air. No effect. The problem did not go away. Is it an adjustment problem?

This may sound stupid but some triggers have issues if the gun is pointed at too steep of a downward angle instead of level depending on how they’re adjusted. It’s a sear engagement issue. I’m sure resetting it will work like Josh said but I’ve seen guys go crazy with their triggers because they’re testing them pointed downward and they’re not working.

Ask me how I know....

A lot of gunsmiths set them up to break like glass. Even though that shows extreme trigger prowess thats the worst thing you can do to a guy. You need more sear engagement and if its like this im sure youll need more overtravel put in or youll start getting hangfires. With a jewell adjusted correctly youll never have to touch it no matter how dirty it gets during a match- itll never leave you hanging

What Dusty said. I’ve never had a Jewell that would stay reliable at the absolute minimum engagement. It might work 6 months that way but then right in the middle of a match it will start falling off for absolutely no apparent reason. And you may need to take it apart to get all the gunk out.

I have two. One as back up. Send the other in for repair.
Or, as I did when I got one all out of whack in adjustment ...use the untouched one as a pattern on where the screws should be.
Then stop thinking lightest is better and get it so it's light but trust worthy.

theres no need to send in for repair when all it needs is an adjustment. and don't try to pattern the screws off of another- each trigger is a whole new animal due to the way theyre stoned. best thing to do is learn how to take them apart, how to clean them and most importantly how to adjust them. it doesn't take long to run thru the 3 screws and make sure its right before you go to a match- it should be a habit actually. you shouldn't have to even need a spare trigger although I highly recommend it. get with somebody that knows how to adjust them and spend some time tinkering with one. you wont mess it up so get online and find an adjustment procedure and play with it. also if its your first time taking one apart please do it in a Ziploc bag inside a bowl. you need to do this until you figure out where all the tiny parts are and how they fall out and when.

This is slightly embarrassing on my behalf. The photos are of my Jewel trigger that would sometimes cock and sometimes it wouldn't . At first I thought it might be a trigger hanger problem, but I now believe the problem was I was using canned air after flushing it out with lighter fuel. Canned air appears to leave condensation behind.
I'm not taking any credit for the reconditioning of the trigger that was done by someone with far more knowledge about such things than I. The trigger was stripped, cleaned and then bead blasted before being reassembled , I'm told it works perfectly now.

i once had the mainspring break in the halfway point of a score match relay and it wouldn't cock unless you put the safety on and then to fire the gun all you had to do is put the safety off. I didn't have a spare, and that ended the match for me. I now use trigger tech for my hunting gun and bix and andy for match gun. NO more wire mainspring. you will never break a coil spring, and that's the only kind of springs in the bix and andy and triggertech.

If you use a bore guide when you clean how does gunk even get inside of it?

Life isn’t that perfect. It’s not just solvent. Shooting environments have plenty of micro sized particles blowing around. Over time it finds its way. Or clean your trigger regularly..
