Jewell Trigger Firing Pin Block Releasing When Bolt Handle is Closed

I have a used Remington 700 .308 F-TR rifle with a Jewell HVR trigger with safety and bolt release. This trigger occasioanally releases the firing pin upon closing the bolt handle. It has spring "A" installed and is adjusted to 12 ounces. I have adjusted the trigger as per the Jewell instructions but continue to have this issue. I have also flushed the trigger with lighter fluid several times and changed firing pin assemblies. I have contacted Jewell via email and have received no response. The phone number listed on their website is disconnected. I have several of these triggers and have never had an issue. I am considering completely disassembling the trigger to see if I can find the cause of the issue. TIA for your help!

Jewell is now out of business. No help from them.
I would try adjusting for more sear engagement. It’s the front screw in the trigger. Turn it counterclockwise for more engagement. Work in 1/8 turn adjustments until the rifle will pass a bump test.
If you do end up disassembling the trigger, polish the inside of the side plates and don’t over tighten the side plate screws when reassembling.

Thanks for those 2 quick replies! I have a B spring I could install and try. When I tried to increase sear engagement by turning the front screw CCW, it actually made the problem worse. That makes no sense to me. Thoughts? Thanks again!!

I’m no expert but if adjusting the sear engagement doesn’t help try pushing forward on the trigger while cocking. If this helps remove the trigger spring set screw and see if the spring is bent or squished flat. If so, replace the spring if you have one or stretch and straighten the spring if you can.

Occasionally I like to disassemble my Jewell triggers and clean them out. It has become so easy for me to disassemble and put it back together. I have also found that Jewell would bead blast the internal parts. I like to polish all the internal parts, making them slide more freely inside the housing. Lubricate with white gas. If you bugger the screws they are available from McMaster
