Jewell trigger problems

Seems that I am not having very good luck with the Jewell HVR-A triggers. So far, I have replaced 2 complete triggers and several sear springs. The problem is that when I close the bolt the firing pin releases. On some 20 shot strings, it might not happen at all and others times 5-10 events in a row. The trigger has a pull weight of 10 ounces and is in my FTR Bat model 3L multi-flat action.

The trigger is lighter fluid flushed at each barrel cleaning and compressed air blown dry.

Guessing there are guys out there who will say, “ I have used their triggers for the past 37 years and never have a problem.” What am I missing?

if you havent already done so..i personaly would contact jewell about this and see what they say...maybe...just maybe 1 in a million that there was some type of manufacturing flaw in it...

A while back BAT needed different trigger hangers that were marked with numbers..
I believe they changed the way it sets at the sear.
BAt will be happy to explain that....

Sounds like. Firing pin block, cocking piece clearance (timing) issue. Putting undo stress on Sear spring and linkage. Call Bat

On the top lever of the trigger, at the back, where the cocking piece is stopped by the angled surface, where is the shiny spot? It sounds like the trigger may be too low relative to the cocking piece. My HVR is set for about 2 1/2 oz. and has never failed to function. I think that I have taken it apart and cleaned it exactly once. It wasn't very dirty.

I have spoke with the fine companies of Jewell and Bat. As with all mechanical machines, the fix is sometimes not the easiest to fix the first time.

Wow, I'm one of those that have shot them since dinosaur time. I had one that would cock the bolt, but not the sear. The inside of the side plates were not nice. I lapped them and it works fine now.

That Piece that Mr. Hanson posted was from BR.Com. I think it was Jack Neary's story. It is a good one. Thanks Mr. Hanson
