Jewell trigger creep

I have a HVR trigger that I've had mounted to a R700 and now a Stiller Predator V action. The trigger has always had a bit of creep to it, but it has gotten worse. I tried adjusting per the manual, but that just results in a trigger with a LOT of creep. It seems to be all related to the sear engagement. If I set it up with the 3/4 turn of engagement like Jewell calls for, I have ~3mm of creep. As I decrease the engagement towards about 1/4-1/8th turn, the creep just about disappears. It "seems" safe set there, I can't force it to go off by slamming the bolt, bumping the gun, or fiddling with the safety and trigger together. However I have concerns about it being that far off of Jewell's recommendations. Any red flags here? The other thing I thought of but haven't tried, I have it set to let off at about 12oz with the A spring. Should I use the B spring with more preload instead? Yes the trigger is clean and dry. TIA.

First of all, call Jewell for their take.
Take into account your usage of this rifle. If this is a competitive rifle and you are shooting it on a controlled firing line I would give it a try and see how it holds up over a course of fire. It seems to be holding now but may change as you use it. If this a hunting rig, try 1/2 turn engagement and live with a miniscule amount of creep.
My Win. 70 unit held its adjustment for a couple of matches but then trigger pull decreased and the odd striker drop occurred while closing the bolt. A readjustment fixed it and it has been great for a couple of years now.

Thanks for the reply. The trigger is on a bench gun, but even then I wouldn't want any surprises. I have it set at 1/4 turn at the moment, just the tiniest bit of creep. (free play might be a better description) I can live with it.

I have noticed this on several of the newer jewell triggers here lately. Not sure what it is or why. I am also on the ragged ege of sear engagment. I have had to fiddle with the last four jewell trigger i have owned. One of this is just palin bad. its going back to jewell for an assestment. Lee

Defintely heed the advice given here and communicate with Jewel as soon as possible. Don't mess with triggers that give surprises. It sounds like you've exhausted your options for adjusting it. By rights Jewell should stand behind it and ship you a replacement. I own a Jewell HVR myself and though I have not experienced the issues you describe I suppose every now and then a bad one slips out the door.

Keep us updated on this.

thanks,
Jason

Thanks everyone for the input. Against better judgement I suppose, I've been shooting with the trigger. It's working just fine set the way I have it, no surprises. I do intend to call Jewell about it, but it's one of those deals where I can't be stuck without a trigger at this point. If I get a chance to try the B spring with more preload, I'm going to do that, and I will report back. I have a theory that whatever freeplay exists in the pivot and so forth is taken up by preload on the spring, and running the A spring at minimum is not helping things.
