JB1000BR on Wipe Out and Slip 2000

JB:

I know you have had great results with these products. I just got mine in last week. Can you review your procedure for cleaning with Wipe Out and Slip 2000 Carbon Cutter? What size tubes are you using on the WO?

Thanks in advance,
Jim Hardy

Hi Jim --

Tubes: http://www.6mmbr.com/page/page.cfm/jbwipeout

I'm doing things a little different now...using the boreguide instead of putting the tube in the chamber...

1/4"ID polyethelene on the nozzle, and 3/8"ID,1/2"OD) on the end...this, pressed firmly in the rear of a Lucas guide works PERFECTLY...NO MESS!

RE: SLIP2000 Carbon Killer and Wipe-out

I just hit 468 rds with my 6BR,broughton 5c) this weekend, and won with it), near the same with a 308,broughton 5c), and getting started up tuning a 284,Kreieger)...

All have been cleaned this way since the beginning and will continue to be until i see it doesn't work

NO AMMONIA & NO BRUSHING!

SLIP2000 CK first:

couple wet, single pass
couple wet, scrubbing
1 wet, soak 15min-1hr
1 wet scrubbing
Repeat soak and scrub till streaks of carbon are gone

**Tighter fitting patches work well for the scrubbing steps.

2-3 dry patches

1 patch Wipe-Out Accelerator
Wipe-out Soak for 30mins-24h

2-3 dry patches
couple wet scrubbing with Hoppes 9,or SLIP2000 Gun Oil)
clean chamber with Hoppes 9 on a patch, then a new patch with lighter fluid

Last, 2 dry patches to remove the hoppes.

That is what i have been doing...

When i give this gun what it wants, and drive it correctly, rare occurence), it WILL win...won 3 out of 4 groundhog matches I have shot, and the one i lost, was lost for 2 reasons...Vertical due to being pushed out of my tune due to temp rise, and DRIVER ERROR :, couldn't find the center of the target at 500 :D

Will be checking things with a bore scope soon...

Cheers,
JB

Jim -- seems my NON-brushing regimen may have bit me after 500rds...

Ran a patch of JB to address a little roughness and this caused velocity to drop around 40fps...exact symptom of removing carbon...still shot like crazy though :D

Going to have to bump the powder back up to get back where it shoots...

Wonder how it would have shot had i not been accumulating carbon :D

I think adding a brushing step to the SLIP2000 step will take care of everything...

Jason's shown a lot of courage to go the no-brush route this far. One thing to note however, his last step with Hoppes 9, or Slip 2000 Oil does introduce a petrochemical product.

Wipe-Out's designer, T. Paul, claims you shouldn't use oil after Wipe-out because it will burn off in the throat leading to some carbon buildup. Honestly, I can't say if he's right.

We've been using a Wipe-Out only routine for our 17cal project gun. After about 800 rounds we had to resort to Bore-tech Eliminator to get carbon out because we saw the groups opening up after 15 rounds or so.

So it does appear, that good as Wipe-Out may be, it may take some more aggressive de-carbonizing work to get your barrel back in prime condition.

Still in the case of the 17 we're talking 800 rounds without a brush--not even nylon. So it's not like you have to over-do it when the groups start opening up. And ironically, some of the best groups we've ever shot were with the "fouled" barrel,800 rds through it) after our std Wipe-Out treatment. They just opened up faster than before...
