J. Lederer Barrels

I just recieved a barrel today from Mr. Lederer, just wanted to pass on how pleased I am with the overall finish, especially of the bore. Its an outstanding looking barrel. I hope it shoots as good as it looks, if so, we are all in for a treat.

That's good to hear. I have one on the way. I had never even heard of him, but glowing opinions here led me to buy one. I'll let everyone know how it shoots, next spring.

Always nice to see new cut rifle barrels on the market :) How do his prices compare with Krieger, Brux, Bartlein, Rock, etc...?

My "web search" revealed that he worked for another Company for a long time then broke out on his own. Set up his own shop. Built his own machines and started production. Evidently trying to make the best of the best cut rifled barrels possible. Starting a new Company is risky and takes guts. That was enough for me. I'm betting that he's going to make a fine product to make a name for himself.

I hope so. Not gonna be easy to best the track records of the other long time cut rifle manufacturers that hold all the current world records in nearly all forms of competition. I think it would have been a bit wiser if he would have come out with prices that are initially a little lower than manufacturers lIke Krieger and Brux. At least until the barrels prove themselves, then perhaps raise the price. If I'm going to buy a Lederer barrel and spend the same amount of money, or even more, than a Krieger or Brux, it had better be the best dang shooting barrel I have ever experienced. Otherwise there's no point in buying one. Of course that can never be guaranteed...

This is where manufacturers like X-Caliber were smart. They came out with prices that can't be touched by any other button rifle manufacturer. Now that they are proving their barrels are every bit as good as other button rifle barrels and they are slam packed with orders, their prices will start to climb. Just a better way to get your foot in the door of a very competitive market in my opinion.

I purchased a used rifle here a few weeks ago and it came with a Lederer 308 barrel. The rifle was calling to me....Picked it up at my FFL on a Thurs night. Put scope on it and loaded 3 rounds that I knew would be safe to measure velocity and zero scope. Took to countryside and took some readings and zeroed scope on Sat. Based upon quite a bit of experience with the 185 Juggernaut, I loaded 15 rounds at one load/seating depth and 10 rounds with another seating depth and shot it at 300meter match on that Sunday for 20 rounds for record.

So, basically without load development, here are the targets (I used the first 5 shots to get on target). I'd use the second load as is, but with actual load development could do even better. I'd say they have great potential.

First 10 (Shots 1-10). I took two clicks off of elevation after 2nd shot.

I have a muzzlebrake to finish, and 2 chambers going to Kentucky. After those, I am going to chamber the JL barrel and see how she does.

Hi Tim, what are you going to chamber it in? That's a pretty expensive barrel !

I have a brand new JGS reamer in a .080" long 6BR, almost a BRX, but with longer neck. Been having to use 2 reamers to get there, now have a custom tool. These barrels are same pricing as most, actually less if you can get by with 27" blank. He adds 10.oo per inch.

Mine is long. It'll finish at 32 if I want it to. I figured $360 was in the reasonable range.

I won a James Lederer barrel at the Wisconsin State Hunter Shoot in early July 2014.I told James what I would like that day,he said 4 weeks delivery.I did not hear anything after the 4 weeks but thru the fall of 2014 I saw him listing barrels for sale during my wait. Long story short I got the barrel in January of 2015. James offered a discount on a second barrel because of the wait.During the summer of 2015 I emailed and questioned James about a 6mm barrel and he replied to several emails answered all my questions.I emailed him asking to place an order the 6mm barrel I also asked if he would honor the earlier discount offer he made me. He has not replied to that email or several follow up emails. To date I have not gotten a reply. I do not know if he is busy or just wants to ignore his earlier offer. Just the facts.
