I've got an itch for a mini 14 223/556

If you have a itch for a mini-14 do not itch it ! Unless you like shooting 12 inch groups at 100 yards. I started with one 1n 1977 as a graduation Present. Every 10 years I replaced it with a new one. Did this for 40 years. No more. It wiped me. Do not do it. Marty

Accuracy systems inc. byers CO.

They definitely look cool (wood stocked ones) but I would look at the replies in this thread. Had a Mini 14 then a Mini 30, disappointed to say the least.

Late to the party but I'd advise a strip of Black Cat firecrackers instead of a mini-14, The one's I've seen on the range years ago, don't see any now, were just expensive noisemakers.

I have a soft spot for the Mini-14, as terribly inaccurate as they are/were.

When I was a young man I spent a lot of time coon hunting in pecan bottoms, and around the age of 16 I picked up a Mini. I probably killed north of ~1,000 coons/rabbits/skunks with one. They used to sell some .223 45gr JHP value packs at WalMart; pick two of those up, grab a spotlight, and you've got a nice little Friday/Saturday night. :)

I sold mine ~15 years ago, but I've really wanted one in recent years. No real reason; mostly nostalgia I think.

It may have been loud as hell. It may throw brass so hard it'll break your truck windshield if you shoot it in the cab. They may be tough on scopes. The mag situation may be garbage.... but there is just something about them.

I halfway wonder how well I could make one shoot today.

If I could find a newer model for a reasonable price, I'd take one.

I have owned a few over the years and noted several things. First, they require Ruger MAGs to work properly, I never found a suitable aftermarket to function properly. Second, if they were shooting for shit they would not get a whiff. They can be "made" more accurate if your heart desires but barreling and a lot of other work must be done, never saw the point of spending the time or money. I also noticed some of the early government contract Mini-14s seemed to have different rifling and were a little more accurate, the civilian version all seem to have the "micro" rifling that is junk. Just my 2 cents....
