It's time to mount some scopes!

Midway has a scope leveling tool, but it looks like a toy! And with tax and shipping it's about 200 bucks. I made this one for less than 50. I may have gone overboard with the 1/2" plate. It's oversized so I can put a Starrett 6" machinist level on both axis. That level is good to 0.005" per foot.

Little bit of overkill for a scope base, isn't it??

Personally, since the tops of my actions are rounded, I wouldn't care if the bottom is perfectly squared.
It's more important to me that the top of the mount be aligned with the action.

I use a piece of steel that lays in the bolt raceways and put a level across that and the top of the base.
Reticle is set using a plumb bob.
