It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

Bow hunting last night and very early on a coyote came trotting through the woods. I was using a Mission Sub-1 and was glad for it as a snap shot behind me through a small opening got him. Didn’t want to show a pic of the backside as there was a good amount of innerds hanging out.

Seen that. About 10 years back, I was sitting in my treestand in the corner of a big alfalfa field. Coyote comes out of the woods. It seemed like he looked right at me and sat down quartering to me, kinda thumbing his nose at me. Bad idea, as he provided a nice target to nor worry much about verticle. Well, I don't much like coyotes, so I lasered him to be 51 yards. I set my single pin to 50 and drew the Mathews Switchback XT, let the pin settle and sent the arrow. I hear a nice thwack, coyote runs off, looks like the arrow is flopping on the offside as he runs off. I sit till no shooting light. Go look. No arrow, no blood. Go back to camp to gather tracking stuff. Grab a bite and some adult beverages. Starts to rain lightly. This was the same year I had the fiasco with the Ghost Scent tablets. So with the rain, I broke out another new untried product and hoped this chit would work. The new product was "Starlight Bloodhound". Adapted from a spray used for forensic detection of blood. Went back out on the track. Of course the little SOB went into the freakin "doghair" reprod. Mixed up the spray and started after him. I had marked where he went off the field and tried the spray. Turned off my headlamp and I'll be damned if there isn't some blue glowing spots. Turn the headlamp on and check the spots and verify it's blood. I crawl on my hands and knees thru the doghair using the spray. Led me right to the big male. I have his tail. The flopping I thought was the arrow was a loop of intestine. He ended up dragging a nice long string shall we say. Gee, too bad. :):):) Edit: Forgot the pic of the "mount" IMG_20200929_183611.jpg

My 24yo nephew stopped by this morning on his way back from a Colorado bow hunt. He got a dandy 6x6 on public land over the counter tag. Packed in 5 miles and hunted with one friend. My son posed with the rack before he had to go to school.

I wasn’t aware that there was an Elk season for rifles in Colorado in the middle of September. Was it some special tag????
Archery target in bed of truck.
Looks like he put a boil on the skull at camp after fleshing.

I think you and Mark might want to go back and look at my post again, I think you are referring to an unrelated post.
My bad, I now see your referring to the cow shot with a lever gun.

With CWD in CO, the skull has to be cleaned to transport out of state so he took the head/cape to a taxidermist and had him finish caping/freeze hide and decided to have him clean the skull rather than cutting the cap off. Bit of waste as he’s getting it mounted but he’ll display the European mount until then.
