It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

There is a story here...I'll start...

Deer was running full bore after a doe when he jumped the fence, caught his ...um...leg...on the fence, went topsy turvy and broke his neck on the rock, right before our intrepid OP could shoot him!

Let the games begin!

Beautiful buck btw, and sorry for the joking. You must be thrilled to get a slammer like that one!

26 Dec this showed up on the game cam, Spypoint Flex.

28 Dec it hit the ground hard. Used my shooting mat to drag it to the truck.

Details of the rifle: R700, 28 inch KBI 30-06 Serengeti chamber, SRS Ti Pro 3 ST brake, 215 Bergers coming out 2835 pushed by N560, Trijicon Tenmile. Trained quite a bit with cold bore over time off the bipod. There were days I just fire one round for confirmation then it goes back in the truck and shoot other rifles.

240 yards from the open shooting hide sandwiched between cedar trees to where it stood. Shot taken off a bipod, and shoulder, POI placed at the off switch. Bang-flop, no twitch. Not a fan of tracking, especially through the ravine between the hide and the clearing.

Went out squirrel hunting two days ago. It was very misty, with a chance of some very light drizzle, so I didn't want to take something with a scope on it. So the very field-ready 870 Express got the call. I normally don't want to use a shotgun when the leaves are off the trees...simply because the shots are usually longer. But I always purchase 1 1/4 loads...normally with #4 size shot....sometimes #6 shot. ...and a FULL choke. If I'm using #4 (less pellets) at longer distances, with these big fox squirrels, I need the tighter patterns a full choke give.

I get out in the woods, fortunately the ground/leaves are wet and I don't 'crunch' with each step. I find a spot next to a large fallen tree. The trunk is at least 3 feet wide. I know I'm going to be sitting/waiting for a while so I lean my gun up against the fallen trunk. (I always pull the breech back 1/2 way to disengage the firing mechanism just in case it falls over) I figure with the leaves off the trees, I'll only see a squirrel at a distance, and that will be enough time to pick up my gun and put in my ear plugs.

I start calling (4" bolt and scraping it with a flattened empty 20 gauge shell) I keep looking and looking...always focusing on things 40+ yards away, because there's no way I'll ever see a squirrel less than that. But I'm standing there, and low and behold here comes a fox squirrel about 20 yards away. (looks like my calling worked) I have no ear plugs in, and my gun is leaning against the fallen trunk...crap! I do my best to pick up the gun and put the plugs in, but I think it sees me. It runs to a tree about 30 yards away. I loose track of it. I don't know if it kept running away on the ground or if it went up the tree. After about 5 minutes of nothing, I see a 45 degree branch about 20 yards up in tree. Where the branch connects to the main trunk is a round lump of something. Could that be a squirrel? Dang, I didn't bring the scoped gun, so I can't tell. It's extremely overcast and late in the day, so there's a lack of light...everything is grey. I keep going back and forth, looking at the ground, and looking at the round lump. I figure the lump, about the size of a softball, is probably just part of the tree that I didn't notice before. But after another few minutes, the lump moved!!! It's the squirrel! It move up the tree a bit and finally came into view.

257 Roberts putting in the work! I've been waiting for this shot for a long time. A first for me and personal best. 400 yds, I've been waiting for a deer to walk out beside those twin power poles for about 25 years. This year they cut the entire powerline; it looks like a pasture. This little buck was so in love that he followed a little lady straight to his undoing. There's a warning there for the 2-legged young bucks as well. There wasn't a lot of time, lined up the 400 yd stadia line and squeezed. Watched him get out of the powerline with his tail tucked tight. Hit him just behind the right shoulder, bullet exited just at the point of the left shoulder. Good little blood trail right to him. It's been a great day, watched 12 this morning, does, there was a spike standing in the patch 75 yards from me when I shot this one. He may not be the biggest, but this one will be burnt in my memory for a long time to come. Thanks for putting up with me!

So the guy I was sitting with said, I can track pretty good, I replied, I don't like to track at all. No tracking required. A little anatomy knowledge with correct placement..... 257 Roberts doing work.

Had a coyote 15 yards from the house so I was about to walk out the back to try and get a shot at it when I hear someone went out the front to "see it" which made it bolt away. I walk to front of house and see another across the field so I go in and grab the 20p and launch off at 305 yards and flop. Good male with a nice coat on him.

Took another first time hunter out on her first big game hunt. Piper is a friend of the families daughter and has expressed interest in hunting for the last couple of years. She finally turned 10 years old and was able to complete her hunter safety course and draw a youth stink pig tag. We hunted hard for 3 days and were finally able to turn up some pigs. She made a perfect shot on this large sow with the 6 Creed and the smile on her face says it all. Fun times.

Was a very humid night after a storm passed through.
I was tired, but the landowner said the bait piles were hit hard, so I went out.
Had this dog come in behind me, but on the other side of a hedgerow.
The wind shifted and I heard it moving, but couldn't see it going through the tall grass in the field.
I finally spotted it through the branches and took a shot.
It dropped somewhere in the semi flooded field.
I was really tired and I didn't see anything moving for fifteen afterwards, so I let it lie and went home.
