Is this normal?

Brand new out of the box Tikka CTR. One of the screws on the pic rail is sticking up quiet a bit.

Forum Boss: This raised front screw is proper. It is designed to serve as a connection for a elastic mirage band. Leave it in place.

No.....Back it out and take the rear screws out ....check to make sure the front is tapped all the way.

Looks tapped all the way. I think they just put the wrong length screw in it maybe?

The 2nd photo shows 2 other screws that look to be the REAL screws. Could that front screw be for some sort of rail extension to fit into? Or some proprietary mount?

Photos of the CTR on EuroOptic seem to have the same raised screw.

That is not a picatinny rail mounting screw. That is the mirage strap attachment screw.

Is there even a hole in the action for a screw to go there? In that last Pic I don't see a hole.

Thinking the same thing, i do not see where the base is countersunk to accept the taper (or head) of the screw.

just remove the rail --it will take two minutes --see how many and where the action is taped for mounting screws---this is why it is always best to mount your own bases-rings rather than have them mounted at the factory--Roger

I called Euro optics and they confirmed it’s a mirage band. Apparently they get quiet a few returns after people try to torque it down and it pulls the pic rail up from the action.

A little internet research shows pictures of that being used for an elastic mirage band. All is good.

There are 4 pic rail screws. The other 2 holes are for the pins on the bottom of Tikka rings. The front screw that is sticking up is to attach a mirage band.

It's not a problem, it's for a mirage band. If you're not going to use a mirage band just take the screw out and it won't worry you any more. It appears that Tikka is way ahead of most of it's users.
